In the early morning hours of a cold, rainy May 2, Gladys crossed over to be with her beloved Jess. For both of them now, the “Son” is shining and they will be together forever beyond the clouds.
She was born in Norton, Kansas on July 31, 1920, daughter of Laura E. (Ward) and Norman Strayer. She married Jess M. Taylor at her family home on June 1, 1946. She was a housewife and a very talented and accomplished seamstress. She served for many years on the election board.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and an adored grandmother. She never hesitated to sacrifice to put her family first. The love she was given was returned a thousand-fold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jess; sisters, Ferne Strayer & Ivalee Ervin; brothers, Carl, Guy, Francis, and Ralph; and granddaughter, Stephanie Taylor.
Survivors include; daughter, Elizabeth (Jerry ) Benoit of Salina; son Gene Taylor of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Larry Taylor of Derby, Kansas, Sheri Schrock (Sam) of Denver, Colorado, Ed Benoit (Sarah) of Salina, Laura Orton (Jimmy) of Taylor, Texas, and Melanie Benoit of Salina; great-grandchildren, Sidney Thompson, Jaden Forsythe, Stephanie Beiriger, and Joe Bledsoe, all of Denver, Colorado, Destanie Tarnow (Cameron) of Canada, Jessalyn Benoit-Colborn, Parker Benoit, and Olivia Benoit, all of Salina; as well as, great-great-grandchildren, Johnny Webb and Kentan Tarnow of Canada. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, who loved her dearly.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, with Pastor Amy Bowers, officiating.
