Virginia E. McGeary, 91, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013. She was born January 14, 1922, in Trego County, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Edna Pugh. She was educated at Salina High School, Fort Hays College and Marymount College. She taught school for 13 years and was the Saline County Register of Deeds for 22 years. Virginia was an avid gardener. She attended Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and had the longest living membership of the church. For more than 30 years she was affectionately known as the Pugh Family “OLR”, oldest living relative, or “Sis”.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett; one brother, Charles; and one sister, Thelma.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas McGeary and wife Kristin, of Colorado; two brothers, James Pugh (Allene), of Salina and Robert Pugh (Janelle), of Texas; one sister, Mim Hiesterman (Kieth), of Wichita; three grandchildren, Colin, Ella and William McGeary, of Colorado.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Presbyterian Manor Chapel, 2601 E. Crawford, inurnment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and left in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, Kansas 67401.
