Reuben Ricardo Montoy, 59, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 7th, 2017.
Reuben was born in Salina, Kansas on September 21, 1958, son of the late Carmen (Bonilla) and Oscar Montoy.
His greatest love was kids, starting with his own children, grandchildren, and the many multitudes of students he worked with. He taught nearly every elementary grade before moving into administration in the middle and high school levels, where he was the first Hispanic principal. He coached wrestling for many years, and was the first USD 305 high school soccer coach. He was a wrestling referee for 35 years receiving “Official of the Year” three times. He touched many children’s lives across of the state of Kansas.
Reuben also served as President of United Way, Greater Community Foundation, on the Salina Big Brothers Big Sisters board, and Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife Susan of the home; daughters, Jade Martens, Jordan Palmer (Bret); sons, Eric Montoy, Ryan Montoy, Billy Gaskill (Susan); sisters, Monica Maynes (Robert), Mary Magee (Michael), Sophie Frain (Randy); brothers, Marc Montoy, and John Montoy (Karla). He is also survived by Grandchildren, Saibre and Jyles Montoy; Gracelynn, Campbell, Rhett, Greer Gaskill, Jillian, Alison, Amelia and Alexandra Coykendall; Elliot Dolan.
A vigil service will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, November 10, at Sacred Heart Cathedral with family receiving friends from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the church.
Memorial Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 11th, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina.
Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Salina, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Family to establish an education scholarship for students from USD 305.
