Dorothy A. Purdy, 74, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:10 P.M., Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 while in the company of family members, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kansas.
Dorothy was born in Wellington, Kansas on June 2, 1943, a daughter of Esther Margaret (Simon) and Henry George Erker.
Dorothy attended St. Anthony’s of Wellington, Kansas and St. Mary’s Elementary School and attended and graduated from Garden City High School in 1962.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson, Kansas.
Dorothy was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She later worked as a secretary for Prudential Life Insurance Company for 18 years.
Dorothy was a member of McPherson Hospital Volunteers. She enjoyed books, history, volunteering, loved traveling, watching t.v., especially the food network, history channel, and Dancing with the Stars cooking and baking and spending time with her family.
Dorothy A. Erker was united in marriage to Roger Lee Purdy on May 28, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Garden City, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Garden City, Kansas and shortly after moved to Huntington Beach, California. They later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada prior to moving to McPherson. Roger died on December 3, 2005.
She is survived by her children, sons Jeff Purdy and his wife Tammy, of McPherson, Kansas, Craig Purdy and his wife Stacy, of McPherson, Kansas; daughters, Christine Fell, of Berthoud, Colorado, Stephanie Fraley, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shannon Richardson and her husband Shanne, of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Dolores Willems and her husband Ray, of McPherson, Kansas, and sister-in-law Dorothy “Dottie” Erker, of Inman, Kansas. She is also survived by 13 – Grandchildren – Anthony Fell, Dominic Fell, Nicholas Fell, Benjamin Fell, Jordan Fraley, Taylor Fraley, Tommy Fraley, Darianne Richardson, Zaccary Richardson, Shayla Purdy, Jacob Purdy, Savanna Purdy and David “D.J.” Morse.
Proceded in death by parents, Esther and Henry Erker, brothers, Don, Arthur, and Clifford Erker, and husband Roger L. Purdy
Friends are invited to call Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with rosary to start at 6:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 with Fr. Hien Nguyen officiating.
The final resting place will be held at McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas at a later date
