Doris O. Hopkins

Whitewater – Doris O. Hopkins, 97, died on November 28, 2017 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Mrs. Hopkins was a school teacher at Benton Elementary School and retired in 1985 after 24 years. She was born July 2, 1920 in rural Benton, Ks., the daughter of Frank and Verna (McMaster) Boedecker. Doris grew up in Butler County and graduated from Whitewater High School and obtained her masters from Emporia University. Doris married Vernon Hopkins in May of 1941 at Palmyra Baptist Church.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Vernon and her parents. She is survived by sons Frank J. (Marty) of Pratt, Kan., Fred J. (Shelley) of Benton, Kan., Dean (Mary) of Benton, Kan.; a daughter Janet (David) Sager of Moran, Kan.; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; a sister Orpha Parrish and sister in law Sarajane Bodecker.

Funeral services for Doris will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Palmyra Baptist Church, Rural Benton, KS with viewing to be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 3-6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
