Charles R. Shelton, Sr. 78, formerly of McPherson, Pratt, and Canton, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at his home in Cunningham, KS. He worked in the oil fields on drilling rigs and also worked for several years at Johns Manville in McPherson.
He was born May 16, 1939, in Oxford, Indiana, the son of Charles F. and Opal E. (Laird) Shelton. He attended high school in Medaryville, Indiana.
On May 18, 1968, he married Betty M. Doty in Tijuana, Mexico.
Survivors include: wife, Betty of the home; children, Lana Wolfgang (Steve) of Cunningham, KS, Clayton Shelton of Dodge City, KS, Kevin Shelton of Salina, KS, Alice Coleman (Jim) of Stafford, KS, Robin Rumsey of Salina, KS, Karen Bailey (Brad) of Lehigh, KS, Charles Shelton, Jr. of McPherson, KS, and Craig Shelton of Cunningham, KS; a sister, Shirley Saltsman (Ray) of Indiana; brothers, Fred Shelton of Indiana and Russell Shelton (Deanna) of St. John, KS; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Lowell Best, a son, Jody Shelton, a grandson, Trevor Heuson, brothers, Robert and Harry Shelton, and sisters, Barbara Siegman and Linda Hopkins.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 30, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson. Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery, Canton, KS. There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be given to the Charles Shelton Memorial Fund in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
