Florence “Nadine” (Arnold) Mills passed from this life on Thursday, December 29, 2017, at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 89. She was born March 7, 1928, in Hill City, Kansas, to Albert Cecil and Mae Elizabeth (Cooper) Arnold. Nadine attended Grade School and High School in Hoxie, Kansas graduating with the class of 1946. Following graduation, she attended the Salina Academy to become a cosmetologist. On June 1, 1947, Florence “Nadine” Arnold was united in marriage to Albert Lamar Mills at the home of Nadine’s parents. To this union two daughters, Kathy and Kay, were born.
After they were married, they lived in Silver City, New Mexico where Albert attended the Silver City New Mexico Technical College for two years. After Albert’s graduation, they moved back to Hoxie, Kansas. After moving back to Hoxie, Nadine owned and operated her own shop until 1959. In 1961, Nadine joined the family business, Arnold Electric, working mainly on the company’s business records for the government, doing invoices, some ordering and paying all the bills. Nadine and Albert worked together for many until they sold their business.
Nadine was baptized when she and Albert lived in Silver City, New Mexico. She was a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ. She devoted her life to serving God, family, and those in need of a kind word or helping hand. She taught the Toddler’s Sunday School for many years. She was very devoted to the Lord always showing patience, love, and faith to her family, friends, and community.
Nadine was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family. She and Albert served as 4-H Leaders for several years. She loved fishing, music and really enjoyed singing. Nadine had health struggles from birth, but she always had a smile on her face and was positive about life. She was a person who was an encourager, a giver and always put herself last.
Nadine is survived by her daughters, Kathy Patterson and husband David of Hoxie, Kansas, Kay Splattstoesser and husband, Gary of Colby, Kansas, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren nine great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Lloyd Mills and wife Veryl of Houston, Texas; and sister-in-law Lorraine Coulter of Hoxie.
Nadine was devoted to a life of serving God and her beloved family. Her unending patience and gentleness was an example to each. She will be missed but her loving kindness and spirit will be with us always.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents, Cecil and Mae Arnold; brother, Don Arnold; brothers-in-law, Norman Mills and Edwin Coulter; and sister-in-law Doris Arnold.
A funeral Service is planned for Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 1:30 P.M., at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie, Kansas with Micha Howery officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until service time, 1:30 P.M. Family will be receiving friends from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M., at the funeral home.
