Lucille W. Lightner, 96, of Salina, went to her eternal rest Dec. 15, 2017. She was born and raised in Farmville, Va., and has lived the last 57 years in Kansas.
She was a strong women, left with five children to raise after the death of her husband, Alfred, in 1966. Her faith and perseverance carried her through her long life. Lucille was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, as well as the Peacemakers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and her circle at the church. She was a member and held offices in the Order of the Eastern Star, Kansas Federation of Women, and Daughters of the Nile. She had been employed at the office of Dr. McCrae, Feighny and Harbin for over 21 years prior to her retirement in 1988.
Lucille is survived by: son, Alfred Montgomery Lightner Jr.; daughters, Susan Lightner Shaw, and Sharon Yetter; son, H. David Lightner; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Alfred; son, Barrye Lightner; granddaughter, Megan Lightner; grandson, Kevin Dickson; her parents; brothers, Price, John, Garland “Buzzy”, and James “Bobby”; and sisters, Bettie, Dolly, and Margaret.
Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 Saturday, Jan. 6, with a memorial service following at 11:30, all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Inurnment will be at Ft. Riley Post Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucille’s name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Salina, or the American Cancer Society.
