Charles Womack

Charles Womack, age 83, entered into rest on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center, in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born February 26, 1934 in Caruthersville, Missouri to Harold J. and Margaret (Womack) Brigance

Charles served in the United States Army Special Forces, Green Berets, for 20 years and also served in the National Guard Reserves.   He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He married Mary Lou Slater on October 28, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Charles worked for Union Pacific Railroad and later Kyle Railroad as a Lineman and Brakeman.

He was a lifetime member of the Special Forces Association.

Charles enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, sports cards, and sports, memorabilia. He loved driving around looking at the scenery, being outdoors, gardening and John Wayne movies.  He loved spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife Mary Lou, Concordia, KS.; daughters, Kim Strait, Concordia, KS.; Linda Womack, Ozark, AR.; Rita Barnhart (David), Point, TX.; Mary Wright (Anthony), Garland, TX.; Margaret Burton (Richard), Lebanon, OH.; son, John Womack, Forest Grove, OR.; sister, Betty Brigance, Atchison, KS.; 20 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sherry Lapp; son-in-law, Jay Strait and grandson, Blaze Strait.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.  Family will receive friends from 6 pm – 8 pm.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Bob Burns officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #76, Concordia, Kansas and Ft. Riley Big Red One, Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
