Carol Jean Nichols, 78, of Salina, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for three years. Carol was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Britton, S.D., to George and Beatrice Bernadette Wilson. She retired from Tony’s Pizza Service.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wesley Nichols.
Carol is survived by her children, sons, Roger (Carolyn) Lipe, of Wichita, DeWayne (Sylvia) Lipe, of Salina, and daughter, Teresa Vilardell, of Salina; brothers, George “Sonny” (Phyllis) Wilson, of Salina, Melvin (T.U.) Wilson, of LaPlace, La., Ronald Wilson, of Wichita; and her sister, Darlene Meadows, of Mesa, Ariz. She is survived by fourgrandchildren, Jett and Jaggar Vilardell, of Salina, Cristal Joseph, of Houston, and Brian Lipe, of Salina; greatgrandchildren, James and Jaron Joseph, of Houston, and Jett (JJ) Vilardell, of Salina.
A private memorial service for family members will be held. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center. Carol will remain in our hearts forever.

Opal S. Coen, 85, of Salina, passed away at 5 a.m. the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center. She had been a resident at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation since April 2012. She was born April 27, 1927, in Arkansas, later moving to Louisiana, where she grew up.
She met her first husband, Donald Johnson, with whom she had two sons. He preceded her in death when he was killed in Korea, and she raised their two boys on her own. She met her present husband, Larry W. Coen, in 1974, and later married him in 1975. In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons, Robert Johnson and Fredrick Johnson, both of Texas; stepdaughter, Michelle Wiegand, of Wichita; brother, Jerry Wrider, of Texas; sister-in-law, Jimmie Wrider, of California; and numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and greatgreat-grandchildren.
Cremation has been chosen, and no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice and left in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Dale “Gene” Humfeld, 70, of Salina, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. He was born May 30, 1942, the son of Donald and Edna Humfeld. Dale retired from Hawker-Beechcraft after 40 years. He loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Karla; daughters, Gina Wilson and husband Steve and Melanie McDaniel, all of Salina. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at First Southern Baptist Church, 2401 S. Ohio, Salina. Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
The family request that all the flowers be white in honor of Dale. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Southern Baptist Building Fund and left in care of the mortuary.

Mark Albert Younger, 65, of Salina, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. He was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Hays, the son of Albert and Doris (Linenberger) Younger. He married Twila Jean Flax on Oct. 30, 1967, and recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin Younger and wife Shonda, of Derby, and Kelly Younger and wife Tonya, of Salina; brother, Marlin and wife Sue, of McPherson; three sisters, Mary Strecker-Carpenter and companion Elwyne Myers, of Grand Island, Neb., Magdalen “Maggie” Pechanec and husband Gregg, of Hays, and Myra Younger and husband George, of Victoria; and four grandchildren, Kameron, Karson, Quest and Quinn.
Mark served in the United Sates Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was the owner of Mark A. Younger Painting Company for 43 years.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina. There will be a vigil held at 6 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
