Betty Louise (Bachelder) Mosiman was born October 20, 1929 to Ted & Edith (Phares) Bachelder on the Bachelder Homestead 2 miles north of the Palmyra Baptist Church.
She attended Victor Grade School for 4 years & then Victor had only 5 students grades 1 thru 8, so they consolidated with Whitewater Schools. She graduated from Whitewater High School in May, 1947. She didn’t go to college & stayed home & helped farm with her Dad. At a young age Betty helped on the farm, driving mules & working in the fields. Later she drove the tractors & trucks in the fields where needed. Betty was the first girl to letter in basketball all 4 years.
After her father’s death, her brother Melvin & wife Joye and their daughter Connie moved in with her & her mother. In December 1951 Betty started working at Beechcraft for 4 ½ years. On April 27, 1956 she married Eldon Mosiman and they lived on the farm 3 miles south of Whitewater. Eldon & Betty had two children, Nancy Lea and Teddy Eugene. Betty was busy with the family and she had the garden and chickens to take care of and she worked in the field on the farm a lot.
Eldon liked company and he and betty had a lot of company and family reunions. After Eldon’s death in 1990, Betty remained on the farm with her brother-in-law Willard where they continued to work the farm side by side. Betty was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 11 on April 20, 1941 by Rev. Donovan Hickson in a horse tank in the front lawn of the church. Betty was active in church all these years. She was a church clerk for several years and on the church hostess committee several years. She was active in the American Baptist Women Ministries and was President for many years holding other offices as well. She was on the Wheat State Auxiliary in Whitewater several years and held different offices there. Betty volunteered work at Wheat State Manor from when it started in 1974 until 2014. She belonged to the Green Valley Birthday Club which was active from 1959 until 2004. Betty enjoyed attending Kids Club and Centerpoint Group.
March of 2016 betty fell while shopping at South Dillon’s in Newton, breaking her kneecap. After short stays at Newton Medical Center and Asbury Park in Newton and AMG Hospital in Wichita, she came to reside at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Betty just didn’t have enough willpower and strength to get where she needed to be in her rehabilitation and ended up not walking again. She never complained and everyone loved her. She enjoyed playing dominoes and kickball, but especially loved bingo. The grandkids and great grandkids would frequently come play with her and they would have a great time. She enjoyed Bible Study at Wheat State and Linda taking her to church on Sundays, and she always enjoyed company.
On January 19, Betty entered Newton Medical Center with severe dehydration and was unresponsive. She developed c-diff and sepsis. With the help of fluids and antibiotics she recovered, but it left her very weak. On January 26 Good Shepherd Hospice was called in and she returned to Wheat State. The following Wednesday and Thursday she rebounded, eating, sitting up in her recliner and even going to the dining room. On Friday she relapsed. Tuesday morning February 7 at 6 a.m., Nancy stood at her bedside holding her hand as Betty’s breathing slowed until she took her last breath drifting away to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Betty leaves behind her family: daughter Nancy (Bev) Ayres of Cassoday, KS and son Teddy Mosiman of El Dorado, KS; grandchildren Jamie (Bryan) Moore of rural Whitewater, KS, Rachel (Troy) Darks of Edmond, OK, Jason (Whitney) Schroeder of Lawrence, KS, and Clint Ayres of Wichita, KS; great grandchildren Dylan, Maddie, Gary and Maverick Moore; Tayah, Jennie Jo, and Dycen Darks; Holden, Harrison and Aurora Schroeder and Luke Ayres. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Eldon; brother Melvin Bachelder and sisters Eunice Schwemmer and Lois Moore.
