Jake Imel, 98, of Lyons, passed away February 14, 2018 at his home in Lyons. He was born July 27, 1919 in Gray County, KS, the son of Jacob Sr. and Ruth Carter Imel. Jake has resided in Lyons his entire life. He was a backhoe operator for several Lyons Plumbing Companies. Jake was a lifelong member of the VFW Lyons. Jake was united in marriage to Nora Courtorielle. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2004. Jake was united in marriage to Mary N. Pennel. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his parents; step-sons, Ray and Joseph Schwab; brothers, Roy and Chet; a sister; and great great-grandson, Benjamin. He is survived by a son, Paul Imel of Hutchinson; daughter, Marie Nickel of San Antonio, TX; step-sons, Rusty, George and Kenneth Schwab; step-daughters, Georgia, Roxanna, Dorothy and Sandra; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 16, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
