Audrey Jean James, 82, died on February 17, 2018, in Clay Center. She was born April 23, 1935, in Geronimo, Oklahoma, the oldest of three children born to Ed and Pansy Tenopir. She graduated from Lawton High School in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1953 and met the love of her life, Leo James, a Kansas farm boy, at a roller rink in 1954. The couple married in July 30, 1955 and lived the first 6 years of their marriage in Oklahoma. In 1962, they moved to Tucson, Arizona, and after two years there, they moved to Kingman, Arizona. In 1979, they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where they resided until 2003, when they returned to Leo’s hometown of Clay Center, Kansas. Audrey worked as a bookkeeper and accountant during her professional life, retiring in 2003. She received an Associate’s degree in accounting from Mohave County Community College in 1982. She was a lifelong Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church, Clay Center. She taught Sunday School for various children’s classes for almost 60 years. She and Leo are the parents of two children, Richard and Debora. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Pansy Tenopir; a sister, Edna Johns; and a granddaughter, Rebekah James. She is survived by her husband, Leo, of the home; her son and wife, Rick and Natalie James of Clay Center; her daughter, Debbie and husband Patrick Callahan, of Savannah, Georgia; a sister, Lillian Priest of Lawton, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 3-8 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
