Anona Maxine “Toni” Kyle, 100, of Salina, passed away Feb. 17, 2018. Toni was born March 23, 1917, on the family farm in Republic County. She was the third of five children born to John Emil and Anna Sandell Lindblad. Toni celebrated her 100th birthday last March with family and friends at Presbyterian Manor where she had lived for the past nine years.
Toni was a lifelong member of the Ada Lutheran Church in Courtland (Kackley Community). She attended the Courtland school system, graduating from high school in 1935. Toni was very proud of her Swedish heritage and her fondest childhood memory was of the entire family singing in the evenings around the pump organ while being accompanied by her cherished father.
Toni met her lifelong love, Byron W. “Bud” Kyle, in 1937. They were married Sept. 21, 1938, and operated the Kyle family farm and dairy in Mankato, until Bud joined the Navy in WWII. Toni and Bud were the proud parents of a daughter and son, Marcia and Dana. Toni accompanied Bud during his Kansas Highway Patrol career to Colby, Chanute, Wichita, and finally to Salina where they retired.
Toni was a child of the Great Depression and a young wife and mother in Salina during WWII. She worked at Salina Consolidated Printing as a cost accountant until Bud’s returned from the Navy. Toni was a homemaker and epitomized a loving, loyal, faithful, caring, and attentive wife and mother. Her family was her life and she worked very hard to successfully provide a happy, peaceful, and nurturing home.
Toni is survived by: her children, Marcia Kyle Rinehart of Lenexa, and Dana Kyle (Susan) of Florida; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Delvon “Lindy” Lindblad of Belleville; and a niece and nephews.
Toni was preceded in death by: her husband of 72½ years, Bud; parents; sisters, Emmeline and Eleanor; brother, Ercell; grandson, Giles Kyle; and son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Rinehart.
A private time of prayer for Toni will be held at the Ada Lutheran Church. Private interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Toni’s memory to the Ada Lutheran Church, 442 Valley Rd, Courtland 66939, or the Salina Presbyterian Manor, 2601 East Crawford, Salina 67401 (Please specify: Employees’ Christmas Fund). Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the Salina Presbyterian Manor staff for the many years of professional and loving care they provided to Toni. Toni also greatly appreciated the many acts of kindness over the years from her relatives and friends.
