Alfred W. Koelling, 96, passed away Saturday, February 17th, in Abilene. He was born June 4, 1921 near Talmage, the son of Benjamin and Rena (Bowyer) Koelling. Growing up in the area, Alfred attended local schools and graduated from Talmage High School. In 1941 he was married to Bonnie Gibbs, later divorcing. on February 16, 1985, Alfred married Martha Beemer. All of their married life has been spent farming northeast of Abilene. Alfred enjoyed spending time with friends and family and his pride and joy, raising cattle. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Lorna Owens and two brothers, Herb and Dale.
Alfred is survived by: wife, Martha of Abilene; daughter, Kaye Maloy of Chandler Arizona; two sisters, Vivian Detrich of Abilene and Alice Kingston of Atchison, Kansas; brother, Butch of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Monday February 26th, at the Abilene First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Roland Slater officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. The familiy will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 PM Sunday, February 25th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Alfred Koelling memorial fund to be designated later. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
