John R. Pientka, 86, passed away Friday, February 23rd, in Abilene. He was born October 19, 1931 south of Abilene, the son of Sylvester and Pauline (Goracke) Pientka. Growing up in Abilene, John attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1949. On November 22, 1952, he married Edna Werth in Salina. All of their married life has been spent in Abilene. John had been employed by Ehrsam Manufacturing/C.E. retiring in 1993 from ABB Raymond. John was preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Angel; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marie Lorson, Loretta Donnelly, Cecilia Burt, Berniece Dion and Frances Pientka and two brothers, Leonard and Ernest Pientka.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of Abilene; son, Steve (Sherilyn Brandt) Pientka of Abilene; four daughters, Connie Blodgett of Topeka, Jane (Jeff) Rufener of Columbus, Indiana, Cecilia (Jay) Junghans of Topeka, Deanna (Doug) Niles of Topeka; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday February 27th, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Fr. Abraham Panthalanickal officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery north of Abilene. The family will receive friends at St. Andrews Catholic Church 9:00 AM until service time Tuesday, February 27th. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be given to the St. Andrews Catholic Church or St. Andrews Catholic School. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
