Margaret Colton Louthan, 84, of Salina, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Salina Regional Health Center. Margaret was born June 15, 1929, in Cloud County to Victor and Florence (Bellows) Colton.
She is survived by her daughter, Ronda; son-in-law, Thane Taylor; granddaughter, Brooke (Corey) Cameron; grandson, Brandon Taylor; great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Cameron; great-grandson, Dominic Cameron; sisters, Althea (John) Pellant and Doris (Doyle) Turner; brother-in-law, Dwight Lippe; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Max; parents, Victor and Florence (Bellows) Colton; brothers, Carroll, Jim, Lawrence, Max, Ivan and Byron Colton; and sisters, Audrey Scott and Bernita Lippe.
Margaret graduated from Delphos High School in 1947 and began college at KansasWesleyan University. She taught school in the winter and attended summer school at Fort Hays State University. On May 25, 1952, she married Max Louthan. She graduated from Fort Hays with a bachelor’s degree at the same time Max attained his master’s degree, also from Fort Hays. She taught in Miltonvale and Russell before she and Max moved to Lyons in 1954, where she taught until herretirement in 1991.
She enjoyed traveling, working on family history, knitting, reading, collecting angels and being with her family. She spent winters in Florida with Ronda and her family. She attended and was active in Lyons Presbyterian Church, and when she moved to Salina in 2004, she attended Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, with the Rev. Martha Murchison officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the mortuary.
