Obituaries 09 June, 2014

2551148Emily Mae Walmsley was born September 1, 1935, in Aurora to Earl Walter Goldenstein and Agnes Ellen (Bremerman) Goldenstein. She was raised on a farm near Aurora, KS. She passed away on June 6, 2014, at the Wakefield Golden Living Center in Wakefield Kansas. Emily graduated from Miltonvale High School then went on to attend and Graduate from the Brown Mackie College in Salina Kansas.

On May 29, 1958, she married Joseph Earl Walmsley of Minneapolis, KS at the Baptist Church in Minneapolis. They resided briefly in South Dakota, then in Minneapolis, Kansas until they moved to their home on a farm north west of Bennington Kansas where they raised their four children. Emily worked at many different positions including: cooking at the Carver Inn Restaurant, dispatcher for the Ottawa County Sherriff’s Department, and manager at the Pizza Hut in Minneapolis Kansas before moving on to employmentas an Office Assistant for Dr. Pennington then Dr. Young both Chiropractors in Salina, KS. Joseph preceded her in death on January 2, 1987 and Emily moved for a time to Missouri then back to Kansas eventually moving back to North Central Kansas area where she grew up. She was baptized at the Baptist Church in Minneapolis Kansas.

She is survived by her children, Joseph “Brett” Walmsley and his wife Sandra Walmsley of Savannah, GA; Jeffrey Wayne Walmsley and his wife Audrey Walmsley of Kearney, NE; Jay “Patrick” Walmsley and his wife Bridget Walmsley of Berryton, KS; daughter Julie Ann Walmsley of Clay Center, KS; sister Maxine Trahan of Miltonvale, KS; nine grandchildren, Jason, Abbigale, Hailey, Jared, Benjamin, Tyler, Emily Jo, Joel, and Hannah and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Larry Earl Goldenstein.

Emily enjoyed gardening, shopping, spending time with family and friends camping or just enjoying a meal. She loved holidays especially Christmas making cookies and candies for everyone. She enjoyed traveling delivering Eldorado campers with Joe, spending time with her sister seeking genealogy about their family and traveling with her. She liked watching birds especially hummingbirds, butterflies, reading and good conversation. Emily loved to be with her family, her friends and enjoyed just visiting and having a good laugh.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Avenue, Minneapolis KS 67467 with Rev. Nate Marsh officiating. A private family burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with family present from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Memorials may be given to the family. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Thomas Stuart Murfitt, 58, of Salina, died Dec. 8, 2013. He was born Dec. 28, 1954, in McPherson. He graduated from Lindsborg High School and Bethany College, Lindsborg, where he was a member of the Gamma Kappa Alpha fraternity and the tennis team.

Survivors: brother, Peter Murfitt; sister, Mary Murfitt; and son, Seth Laffey. Preceded in death by: father, Dr. Malcolm Murfitt and mother, Pravda Murfitt.

Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main, Lindsborg, with the Rev. Loren Mai officiating.

Memorials: Hans and May Hoff Scholarship Fund at Bethany College, Lindsborg.

Thomas L. Elder Sr., 72, of Salina, died Friday, June 6, 2014. Tom was born March 26, 1942, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Carl and Edwina (Nuss) Elder. He was married Sept. 5, 1970, to Mary (McPhail) Elder.

Tom loved to play chess and run the family’s tropical shaved ice stand. Tom was a longtime member of Calvary Apostolic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and two children.

Tom is survived by his wife of more than 43 years, Mary; 10 children; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Calvary Apostolic Church, 1440 W. Republic Ave., Salina. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Calvary Apostolic Church.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Apostolic Church of Salina.

Mark “Nite Wolf” Davis, 57, of Salina, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in Springfield, Mo. He was born July 29, 1956, in Wilmington, Del., to Wallace and Jeanette (Taylor) Davis. He was an O/O truck driver and loved the freedom of the open road.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Becky Esping; and a nephew.

He is survived by two sons, Jesse Davis and wife Brandy, and Cole Davis, all of Salina; three daughters, Bobbi Jo Davis, of Minneota, Minn., Cassandra Tiller and husband Ben, and Ashlei Sutton, all of Salina; brother, Wayne Davis, of Deleware; nine grandchildren; and his dogs, Thug and Dixie.

Visitation with the family receiving friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Ryan Mortuary.Cremation will follow the service, and private inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the family to assist with funeral services.

J. Karl Jones, 88, of Salina, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Marguerite, and their son, Charles, and wife Hazel Morrow-Jones.

The Rev. Jones graduated from Oklahoma State University and Iliff Theological Seminary and served Methodist churches in Colorado and Kansas. In Kansas, he served in Belleville, Garden City, (including Mexican-American ministeries), College Hill and Epworth, in Wichita, and he organized Woodland United Methodist Church, in Derby.

He was district superintendent for the Concordia district of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served as area superintendent of co-operative ministry for parish development and associate director of the Council on Ministry of Kansas West Conference.

The Rev. Jones was a consultant on small membership church administration throughout the eastern U.S. and taught at Iliff School of Theology. He served on the boards of trustees of Kansas Wesleyan University and Lydia Patterson Institute. He will be missed by family and friends.

The family will have a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the visiting nurse program of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina.
