Mary Lou Rome,age 70, of Victoria, Kansas died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on August 11, 1947, in Hays to Joseph M. and Albina (Kuhn) Rome.
She worked at St. John’s Rest Home of Victoria from 1981 to 2012 and then transferred to Via Christi Village in Hays. She retired in September of 2016 after 35 years. Mary Lou, had a great love and loyalty to the residents she served. Likewise, the residents were comforted by her presence and compassion. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, St. Fidelis Christian Mothers/Altar Society, an extra Ordinary Minister and a Greeter at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, a Herzogfest Committee Member and a Victoria Alumni Association Newsletter Committee Member. She was a 1965 graduate of Victoria High School. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and baking goodies for her family and friends.
Survivors include two sisters, Rita M. Gross and Marge Rome, both of Victoria; one niece, Janet K. Trombley and husband, Don, Newtown, PA; two nephews, Bob Gross, Victoria and Mike Gross and wife, Virginia, Shawnee, KS; four great nephews, Bret Gross and wife, Kelsey, Overland Park, KS; Ryan Trombley, Notre Dame, IN; Sam Gross, New York, NY and Will Gross, Shawnee, KS; one great niece, Lauren Smith and husband, Bryan, Littleton, CO; and one great great niece, Gwen Renee Gross, Overland Park, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Don F. Gross; and two infant brothers.
Services are at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.
A vigil service will be at 6:00 P.M. Friday, followed by a Christian Mothers rosary with the Class of 1965 joining at 6:30 P.M. Friday, both at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.
Visitation is from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. Friday and from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M. Saturday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria.
The family suggest memorial to the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.
