Rodrick “Rod” D. Clausen passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at the age of 75, in Salina, KS. Rod was born in Hays, KS on April 15, 1943, to Myron ‘Turk’ and Millicent ‘Millie’ (Chandler) Clausen. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Siemers, of the home, sons Mark Clausen, Allen, TX, and John Clausen, wife Tammy of Castle Rock, CO. Stepsons are Brent Siemers, wife Gretchen of Kansas City, MO, and Kevin Siemers of Colorado Springs, CO. Grandchildren are Grace and Max Clausen, Ryder Clausen and step-grandchildren, Eli and Margaret Siemers. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rod’s first years were spent in Alton, KS. His parents moved to Kinsley, KS, where Rod graduated high school in 1961. He graduated from Ft. Hays University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Psi Fraternity and was Senior Class President of the Class of 1965. There he met and married Joyce Dunkel. Following college Rod moved to Glencoe, IL, where he worked in city management, and later to Washington, IL, where he was City Manager. After many years he moved on and was employed by RC, Inc. as a Representative selling retirement plans to city municipalities. Later Rod divorced and moved to Salina, KS where he met and married Cheryl Siemers. Rod and Cheryl would have been married 20 years this October. Rod was employed at Crestwood, Inc. in Salina for many years before his retirement.
Rod coached in youth basketball and baseball when his sons were young; he belonged to the Rotary Club and worked the annual Easter Seals Telethon in Illinois. In Salina, he became a Mason and joined Trinity United Methodist Church. Rod enjoyed antiquing and was an avid sports fan. Before his illness, he loved to visit his grandkids and travel.
The family will receive friends at the Ryan Mortuary on Monday, April 23rd from 6:30 pm until 8 pm. Funeral services will be at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 24th at 10: am, with burial in Luray, KS following at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations in Rod’s name may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Salina Rescue Mission.
