Mary Ann Crofford

Mary Ann Crofford, 76, of Sterling, passed away April 26, 2018 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, KS. She was born January 17, 1942 in Sterling, the daughter of Karl Nathan and Alberta Mae Holmes Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Sterling High School, with the class of 1960. Mary Ann was a lifelong Sterling resident. She was head cook for the Alden Grade School and for Sterling USD #376, for 28 years of combined service. Mary Ann served on the Kansas State School Food Service Association Board for many years. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Sterling; member of various camping clubs; and served as the neighborhood cookie chair of the Wheatbelt Area Girl Scout Council, Girl Scout troop leader for many years and a member of XI ETA CHI chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. On June 2, 1958, Mary Ann was united in marriage with William “Bill” Crofford in Sterling. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her two daughters, Kathy Crofford of Topeka, KS. and Janelle and Larry Prothro of Salina, KS; sister, Nadine and Darrell Ediger of Sterling; grandson, Graham Prothro of Salina; two step-grandchildren, Audra Prothro and Megan Alameda both of Portland, OR; two step-great grandchildren, Logan and Grace Prothro of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with Rev. Rob Bolton officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, April 30, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Sterling Presbyterian Manor in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
