KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Alfred Jacobs, 91, left this earth to join Jesus in Heaven on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at his home in Kansas City, after recurring, prolonged illnesses. He was born May 1, 1927, in Pfeifer, Kan., the son of John P. and Margaret Jacobs (nee Kisner). Alfred spent most of his life there, before moving to Salina, Kan., and then Kansas City, Mo.
After working for the Union Pacific Railroad and Ellis County Road Department for several years, he purchased Jacobs Service in Pfeifer in April, 1959, and built it into a thriving business enterprise which he operated for more than 30 years. He was a savvy business man and developed numerous, lasting relationships with an ever-expanding customer base. He started playing golf well after his 60th birthday, making many friends in the process, and impressing everyone with his aptitude and quick skill development at a relatively advanced age.
Alfred’s life was his family, and he maintained that the best times of his life were when everyone was together for celebrations, such as his 90th birthday in 2017. He was filled with pride about the many accomplishments of his family members, and he always demonstrated unwavering love and support for them.
He leaves behind: his wife of 13 years, Virginia Jacobs; his sons, Fred (Jane) and Tim (Joyce) Jacobs; his daughter, Stacy Miller (John); stepdaughters, Cheryl Alexander, Deborah Moss (Ed), Nancy Wetig (John), and Lisa Viegra (Jerry); stepsons, Mark and Michael (Renee) Crain; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Alfred was predeceased by: his loving wife of 51 years, Rita Mae Jacobs; his daughter, Karen Baczkowski; his parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and four stepbrothers.
Friends may call at the Ryan Mortuary from 1-8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, where the family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Vigil services will be at 6 p.m. that evening.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina, where there will be visitation at the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of the Mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina.
Memorial donations in Alfred’s name may be made to Holy Cross Charities, 1313 Steven Drive, Hays, KS 67601.
