joan--hickert-coady-obituaryJoan Elizabeth Hickert Coady, 87, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, July 30th, at Sterling House of Salina, Kansas.

Joan was born on the family farm in Norton County, Kansas on May 12, 1927, daughter of the late Elta Mary (Moser) and Joseph Francis Hickert.

She graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Topeka. She was recruited by the Federal Government to help establish the Polio Wards during the Polio epidemic. She specialized in caring for patients in Iron Lung Wards. Once the epidemic subsided, she continued her nursing career with the American Red Cross Blood Mobiles in Salt Lake City, Utah and Portland, Oregon where she retired at the age of 72. In her free time, she loved the adventure of traveling.

Survivors include brother, George Hickert and wife Barbara, of El Segundo, California; sister, Norma Hickert Frank and husband Chuck, of Salina, Kansas; sister-in-law, Alene Hickert, of Blue Springs, Missouri; stepson, John Coady of Ocean City, Oregon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Walter Hickert; sister Helen Schoen; and stepson, Douglas Coady

At the family’s request there will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

vet_ffffffClifford Mosway Stout, 83, formerly of Delphos and Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away July 24, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born April 21, 1931, to Mosway Joseph and Lola (Wheeler) Stout.

He was preceded in death by: first wife and mother of his children, Roberta June (Somers) Stout on October 30, 1992; sons, David Eugene, John Joseph “Joe” and Clifford Ernest Stout; infant brother, David; and sisters, Irene Johnson and Dorothy Garst.

Survivors: wife, Mary, of the home; daughter, Judy (Lee) Montague, of Salina, Kan.; sons, Gary (Deane) Stout, of Salina, and Terry (Brenda) Stout, of Topeka, Kan.; stepson, Roger (Jennifer) Somers, of Lincoln; brothers, Jim (Diane), of Abilene, Kan., Cecil (Evelyn), of Kansas City, Mo., Melvin (Lila), of Solomon, Kan., and Keith (Penny), of Wichita, Kan.; sisters, Jean Wiseman, of Salina, and Arvilla Johnson, of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 25-plus great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 2, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis with graveside service following at Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas.

vet_ffffffham40729Marvin Eugene Hamilton, 94, died July 29, 2014 at his home. He was born Feb.13, 1920 in Webber, KS, the son of Melvin and Anna (Diamond) Hamilton.

He was a standout athlete at Mankato, Kansas High School. Lettering In Football, Basketball and Track After he graduated from High School he attended Kansas State University and was on the Kansas State Football, Wrestling and Track teams. He also excelled at Boxing. His area of study was Physical Education and Animal Husbandry.

Before he was able to graduate The United States entered World War II and he served his country in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945. He achieved the rank of Master Sgt. and received numerous awards, citations and medals for his participation in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, The Break out at St. Lo, The Battle of Brest and Battle of the Bulge. He was a proud but humble member of the Greatest Generation. He later served in the Kansas National Guard.

He had been a Manager of the J.C. Penny’s Store in Canyon City, Colorado and owned his own clothing store In Mankato, Kansas. He loved hunting and fishing and was a Wildlife and Parks Superintendent at Lovewell Lake, (Mankato) Game Warden (Salina) and Law Enforcement Supervisor (Dodge City) for the state of Kansas, Kansas Forestry Fish and Game Commission for 32 years.

Marvin was a member of the Mankato VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, in Salina.

He was an awesome husband, father grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Annabelle (Hamilton) Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Bradrick) Hamilton; and his two sons, Bradley, (Hoyt, KS.) and Jimmy Don Hamilton (Cindy) (Salina). Marvin has three grandchildren, Mose, (Hoyt, KS.) Krista (Rob) and Karla (Jr.), five great grandchildren, (Salina) and six nephews and four nieces.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato, at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Kansas Wildlife and Parks or Mankato, Masonic Lodge.
