cha40807Jeanette E. Chavez, 67, of Salina, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014. She was born March 14, 1947, to George and Celesta Vogan. Jeanette was a cashier at Rod’s Convenience Store for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Rosendo Chavez; brothers, Ted, Floyd, Kenneth and Francis; and sister, Elsie Morgan. Jeanette is survived by a son, Alfonso Chavez IV; daughter, Christina (Terry) Chavez DeGraw; sister, Rose Gillespie; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to Hospice of Salina or Brookville United Methodist Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

smi40807Douglas “Doug” P. Smith, 72, of Salina, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Salina Regional Health Center. On March 6, 1942, he was born in Pratt to Herbert and Esther (Langley) Smith.

Doug graduated from Pratt High School, McPherson College and Wichita State University, where he received his master’s degree.

He married June Phelps in October of 1961. Together they had three daughters. On Jan. 14, 1984, he married Sandy Otto.

Doug was an elder of the Belmont Boulvard Christian Church and served on multiple committees. He had a passion for golfing, hiking, softball and snow and water skiing. He had been an associate professor of criminal justice at Bethany College since 2005. Before that, he had been an adjunct professor since 1978. He had 32 years with the 28th Judicial District as a court service officer, chief of court service officer and court administrator.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” and husband, Dave Stewart Jr., of Lubbock, Texas, Cindy and husband, Brian MacDonald, of Salina, and Melissa and husband, William Lewis Jr., of Lenexa; grandchildren, Robert (Bridget) Davis, Caleb (MaryBeth) Davis, Jayson and Joscelyn Cuba; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug., 11, at Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, 2508 Belmont Blvd., Salina.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Belmont Boulevard Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Belmont Boulevard Christian Church or Bethany College, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401.

     David D. Lott, 54, Minneapolis, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born July 22, 1960 in Salina to Donald and Dica (Atchley) Lott.
      Dave was raised in Minneapolis and was a 1978 graduate of Minneapolis High School. He never met a person that he didn’t greet with a smile. Dave did custom harvesting for over 20 years and farmed for 10 years. He was known as a hard worker but he played as hard as he worked. Dave was the greatest dad to the greatest son, Hayden. He was an avid K-State fan. Dave and Hayden went to all the K-State home and away football games this past year, starting with the 2013 Fiesta Bowl and ending with the 2013 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
      He was preceded in death by his mother Dica; step-mother Yvonne Hoge; and his sister Ronda Kime.
      Survivors include his wife Christa (Hayden) Lott; son Hayden Lott; father and step-mother Don and Leona Lott; brothers Steve and Mark Lott; step-sister Sandra Cole; step-brother Ken Hoge; father and mother-in-law James C. and Clarice Hayden; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
      In accordance with Dave’s wishes his body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 15 at the Bennington Bible Church, 824, N. Nelson, Bennington. The family requests that attendees wear their favorite K-State attire. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Hayden Lott for an education fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
