Marie E. Chapman, 82, of Salina, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, peacefully at her home with family members at her side. She was born June 20, 1935, in Fremont, Neb., to Clifford and Dora Buckland. She married Eugene “Gene” Chapman on Nov. 20, 1954, in Fremont.
Marie excelled at numerous aspects in the business world, but her real love was refurbishing homes at the Smoky Hill River Festival. She was the planner and coordinator of the 1976 Salina Bicentennial Street Fair, and for many years was the coordinator of the River Festival. She loved to travel and was able to visit most of the country.
Survivors include: her husband, Gene, of the home; children, Cynthia “Cindy” Lanterman (Bill), of Salina, Gregory “Greg” Chapman (Melody), of Palatka, Fla., and Brian Chapman (Marie), of Salina; grandchildren, Caroline Lanterman, Lindsay Chapman and Aaron Chapman, all of Salina, Lucas Chapman and Wyatt Chapman, of Palatka, Fla.; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Retzlaff, of Salina. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
The family has chosen cremation, and no services are planned, however, there will be a celebration of Marie’s life at a future date.
