Alice R. Roets, 44, of Salina, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. She was born Dec. 21, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Dennis and Alice (Strawhacker) Thummel. She was preceded in death by her mother and her sister, Debbie Calhoon.
Alice is survived by her father; two daughters, Cassie Roets, of Salina, and Tiffany Roets, of Kansas City, Mo.; four brothers, George Thummel, Ted Thummel, Dennis Thummel and Robbie Boatwright, all living near Alice’s hometown of Atchinson; grandson, Davin; and granddaughter, Riley.
Alice put up a strong fight the past few years. Before her battle, she found great pleasure in mentoring her students at St. Francis Academy. She loved helping others, not afraid to speak her mind but tender and intelligent. Close friends considered her second to kin.
Alice cherished her children, grandchildren and dogs. Alice did not get to travel as she wanted to, and she always wanted to see the ocean. Now, with God, she’s not only in peace but she can do all things. “Love is a smile, a tear and a touch. Love says little, but means so much. Love is forever, and we give it to you. From the family, who thought the world of you.”
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, Salina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.
