Phyllis Elaine Hofts

Phyllis Elaine Hofts, the daughter of James Thomas and Gladys (Erkenbrack) Thomas, was born April 1, 1928 in Republic, KS and passed away on July 18, 2018 at Mitchell County Health Systems, Beloit, KS at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 17 days.

Phyllis grew up in Republic, graduating from Republic High School. She then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at the Morehead Rural School for one year.

On August 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Glenn H. Hofts and to this union was born: Jamie and Thomas.

The couple made their home in Republic, KS area for many years. Phyllis was the bookkeeper and secretary for Hofts Plumbing and Electric. She also was the secretary for a number of years at the Republic Grade and High School. Phyllis later also worked at the Port of Entry in Belleville, KS.

Phyllis was a member of the Republic United Methodist Church where she was very active. She was a supporter and organizer of many of the activities and events at the Pawnee Indian Village through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gladys Thomas, and one brother, Kent Thomas.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Glenn H. Hofts of Beloit, KS; one son Thomas (Laurie) Hofts of Plant City, Florida and one daughter Jamie (Mike) Woolley of Osborne, KS; three grandchildren, Terran Woolley of Hutchinson, KS, Katrina McClure, and Jacquelyn Hofts both of Topeka, KS; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, Republic, KS with Pastor Roger Walls, officiating.

Interment will be at the Lake Cemetery, rural Republic.

Visitation will be from 1 PM until 8 PM on Friday with the family greeting friends from 6 PM until 7 PM on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Republic United Methodist Church.
