Duane Pete Brummer, 82, of Salina, passed away peacefully Friday, July 27, 2018, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Cawker City, the son of John and Caroline (Koster) Brummer.
Duane was a graduate of Cawker City High and served his country—he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an architectural woodworker, working 35 years for Salina Planing Mill, retiring in 1998. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, birdwatching and all sports but especially the Kansas City Royals and University of Kansas Jayhawks.
He enjoyed woodworking even after his retirement. In his younger years he was a very good baseball player, playing shortstop for several men’s fast pitch teams. He also enjoyed playing golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, MaDonna; brother, Dennis; and daughter, Kimberely.
Duane is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sherre; daughter, Jeaneen Humphrey (Ralph); son, Brad Brummer; stepchildren, Chris Williams and Jeff Williams (Dorothy); brothers, Kenneth and Calvin Brummer; sister, Danielle Nuanes (Gene); grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Montoy, Phillip and Ashley Humphrey, Bruce and Elizabeth Sander, and Brenden, Brookelyn, Brayden and Bryson Brummer; and great-grandchildren, Saibre, Jyles, Princeton, Frank, Ollie and Orion.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., all at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud, Salina. Celebration of life in St. Mary’s Parish Hall; followed by private family inurnment in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center or Kindred Hospice, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, KS 67401.
