Dorothy H. Shields, 79, of Salina, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013. She was born January 5, 1934 in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the daughter of William F. and Frances L. (Bradshaw) Gibson. She was later adopted by Harry and Wynn Speece, of Yankton, SD, whom she always referred to as Mom & Dad. She worked as a switchboard operator for Mowery Clinic for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Shields in 2011; her daughter Pamela in 1986; and brother, Bill Gibson.
Survivors include her son, Mark A. Shields and wife Jill, of Manhattan; two brothers, Peter Speece, of Green Valley, AZ and Todd Speece, of Malvern, PA; three sisters, Betty Casteel, of Dearborn Heights, MI, Margaret Vang, of Maple Grove, MN, and Gretchen Rich, of Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Sydney and Samuel Shields, both of Manhattan and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Ryan Mortuary. Private inurnment will be in the Mausoleum Williamsburg at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to DVACK in care of Ryan Mortuary.
