Baunita Zoe “Bonnie” Nixon

Baunita Zoe “Bonnie” Nixon, 86, of Lyons, passed away July 30, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. She was born April 6, 1932 in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin and Hazel Birchenough Temple.

She graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1950. She later attended Salt City Business College for two years.

Bonnie was a lifelong Lyons resident. She was a bookkeeper for Taylor Lumber Company and a realtor for Jack Janssen Central Real Estate in Lyons. Bonnie was a member and past president of the Daughters of the American Revolution; member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons; avid genealogist; and was a Democratic Delegate in 1976 for Jimmy Carter.

On February 22, 1953, Bonnie was united in marriage with Gerald Dean Nixon in Lyons, Kansas.

He survives of the home. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bob Nixon and wife Norma of Bullhead City, AZ; sister-in-law, Coleen Good of Olathe, KS; nieces, Pamela Light and husband Mark of Mountain Home, AR; Susan Hershberger and husband Mike of Kansas City, MO, Marcia Monk and husband Rick of Russellville, AR; nephew, Tim Nixon and wife Amy of Sun City, AZ; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 3, 2018 at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Michael Hershberger officiating. Memorials can be made to Bell and Star Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, 214 West Avenue South, Lyons, Kansas.
