Wayne Edmond Northup, 92, of Salina, passed away Aug. 4, 2015. He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Blaine, the son of James and Lucy Adams Northup.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol as a lieutenant after 27 years of service. He then served as a deputy for the Saline County Sheriff’s Office for nine years. He was a member of Church of the Cross United Methodist Church in Salina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria, in 2007; and brothers, Arthur and Russell. He is survived by his son, Charles, and wife Rita, of Salina; daughters, Gloria Lynn Myers, of Topeka, and Susan Greene, of Abilene; five grandchildren, Crystal Northup, Kurt Northup, Chelsea Greene, Lauren Greene and Trey Clark; and two great-granddaughters, Kristen Northup and Ann Northup.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with burial following in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, with the family receiving friends from 6-8, at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or the church.

Dwight Allen Staley, 57, of Salina, lost his battle with cancer Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015. He was born Dec. 2, 1957, in Lincoln.
Dwight married Connie Senters, and to this union were born three children, Michael (Cathlyn) Staley, Michelle Staley and Tiffany Staley.
Dwight then married Ruth Sweeden and combined their families, adding children, Carmon (Clayton) Zelenka and PJ (Holly) Weinhold.
Dwight was a humble and simple man who cared deeply and helped often. He was a man of few words who had a love for hunting, fishing and, of course, his family. He was a dedicated, hard-working truck driver accumulating more than 2 million miles on the road, the final of which were with Cash-Wa Distributing.
He is also survived by siblings, Ken (Joann), Henry (Sharon), Barbra (Ken) Nicholas, Russell Staley, Dema (Chuck) Diederiech and Dorothy Loghry; grandchildren, Roy, Dalton and Ainsley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Staley; mother, Shirley Bunch; brother, Francis Staley; sister, Joann Allen; one niece; and one nephew.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. There will be no visitation.

Leonard A. Mattas, 86, passed away August 6, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas. He was born September 7, 1928 on the family farm in Ellsworth County, the son of Anton and Matilda (Soukup) Mattas.
A lifetime resident of Wilson, Leonard was a farmer and rancher. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 then granted an Honorable Discharge. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, Knights of Columbus Council #1924 in Wilson, Wilson American Legion Post #262, life member of Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, and served on the Board of Directors for AGCO in Russell. On April 10, 1956 he married Irene Demel at Holy Family Church in Odin. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Mike Mattas and wife Mary of Wilson; daughter Norma Schneweis and husband David of Claflin; brother Raymond Mattas of Russell; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters; Nancy Mattas in 1968 and Mary Mattas in 1979.
Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be Friday, August 7, 2015 at 7:00pm at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the church celebrated by Fr. Mathew Chacko. Burial will follow in the St. Wenceslaus Church Cemetery with Fort Riley Honor Guard, Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, and Wilson American Legion Post #262. Friends may call from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Foster Mortuary in Wilson.
