George Neal Adams, age 100, died on March 12, 2013 at Salina Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas. He was born December 7, 1912, in Delphos, KS, the son of George H. and Bessie (Peet) Adams. He married Elda P. Zeller, October 25, 1935, at Manhattan, Kansas. Prior to Elda’s death in 2011, they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. George has been a resident at the Salina Presbyterian Manor for two years. The family moved to Salina over 50 years ago.
George attended the Manhattan, Kansas, schools and Kansas State University. During his working years, he was involved in supervision of motor freight transportation. He joined Graves Truck Line in 1958 and retired as Senior Vice-President in 1980. Previous to that, he was employed for twenty years by Santa Fe Trail Transportation. He was a member of the Kansas Motor Carrier’s Association and enjoyed leadership roles. Mr. Adams was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee. He and Elda were active members of Presbyterian Mariners.
George and Elda spent much time researching their ancestors. They also enjoyed gardening and attending Kansas State basketball and football games.
George was preceded in death by his parents, hiswife, Elda, a brother, Don R. Adams, and a sister, Myrna M. Ross.
George is survived by a daughter, Kay Elda Winter and her husband William C. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a son, Richard George Adams and his wife, Carolyn, of Topeka, Kansas. He leaves four grandchildren, David S. Adams and his wife, Jill, of Topeka, Kansas, Mark A. Adams and his wife, Casey, of Overland Park, Kansas, Dr. Nancy (Winter) Monsen and her husband, Kristan, of Los Altos, California, and Frederick W. Winter of Denver, Colorado. Also surviving is a sister, Hazel Maxine Porche of Leesville, Louisiana, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Salina. Burial will be at the Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church or to the donor’s choice.
