Dorrine “Dolly” Stell (Hrabe) Dix passed away Thursday morning, September 3, 2015 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 81. She was born on April 20, 1934 to the late Frank and Laura (Koupsa) Hrabe on the family farm in Twin Mounds Township of Rooks County, Kansas.
Dolly attended rural school and graduated from Codell High School with the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to T. Wayne Sutton, they later divorced. She was then united in marriage to Virgil Olson who preceded her in death, and finally to Leonard F. Dix who also preceded her in death.
Never one to be idle with her time, Dolly enjoyed staying busy and being around the people she loved and cared for. Over the years she worked at Maylaine’s Fashions, and was the Secretary of the District Court for Virginia Doughty. Many friends also knew her from the VFW Club and Auxiliary, The Duck Blind, and hospital visits.
Dolly loved life on the farm where she took care of Perry her peacock, and was famous for baking bread pudding, peach coffee cake, cherry chocolate cake, cookies, pumpkin cinnamon muffins, and of course her cinnamon rolls. She made quilts for everyone she could think of, with a total of 128. No matter whether she was baking or quilting, everything was done with a stitch, pinch, or dash of love.
Dolly is survived by her daughters Janine Gilbert and Christopher Furman of Arnolds Park, IA, Judy Sander of Stockton, and Janette LeRoy of Plattsmouth, NE; step-son Steve Dix and wife Theresa of Ellis; son-in-law Charles “Chick” Clayton of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law Pat Dix of Stockton; brothers Normand Hrabe and wife Zoe of Stockton, and Eugene Hrabe and wife Rita of Stockton; grandchildren Terisa Clayton, Matisha Herriman, B.J. Gilbert, Bryan Gilbert, James LeRoy, Matthew LeRoy, Charlie Sander, Brian Sander, Laura Sue Terrell, Leonard Arthur Dix, Tina Dix, and Richard Dix; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Laura Hrabe; husbands T. Wayne Sutton, Virgil Olson, and Leonard F. Dix; daughter Janice Clayton; step-son Leonard James Dix; sister Euline Holubar; and grandchildren Laura Clayton, Kim Sander, and William Sander.
Above all else, Dolly loved her family and friends as she sought to live life to the fullest. Not satisfied with having just visited this world, she left a mark that will live on for generations to come as her stamp of love remains embedded in our hearts forever.
