Obituaries 05 September, 2015

107537James L. Armstrong, 76, of Herington, died Thursday, September 3rd, 2015, at the Salina Regional Hospital. He was born on Thursday, March 23, 1939, at Larned, KS, the son of Dale M. and Elaine L. (Yates) Armstrong.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 12th, 2015, at Faith Covenant Fellowship Church, 8 N Broadway, Herington, with Pastor Gary Schrader officiating. The family will receive friends from 7pm to 8pm Friday, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.

Mr. Armstrong was a long distance truck driver prior to working for the City of Herington in 1985, and retired in 2005. He was a charter member of Faith Covenant Fellowship Church, where he and his wife Nancy loved to worship. He was a drummer in several bands; Page 4 and then Western Play Boys, and when Darlene Austin was in Kansas she would sing with them. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Salina, and he loved watching the KC Chiefs. He graduated from Kanopolis High School with the class of 1957, and was class president.

Married Nancy Carol Davis in Herington, on May 29, 1959; she preceded in death on June 21, 2014. He is also preceded in death by his brother Jerry, a sister Linda Irwin, and his parents.

He is survived by four (4) sons: James “Bo” Jr. (Margaret Clark) of Herington, Jeff (Vickie) of Gypsum, Mark (Sherry) of Salina, Mitch of Colorado Springs, CO; two (2) daughters: Pam Hardison (Kevin) and Paula Ball (Jerry) both of Salina; a brother Richard of New York; three (3) sisters: Judy Hudson of Kanopolis, and Debbie Cox and Barbara Lipe both of Salina; 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Memorials to Faith Covenant Fellowship, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; and may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.

Wichita – Viola Goentzel Reeves, 87, died September 4, 2015 at Asbury Park in Newton.  She was born August 24, 1928 to Henry W. and Tina (Duerksen) Hein at Hillsboro.  She married Ronald Reeves on June 25 2006 at Wichita.  Survivors include: spouse, Ronald Reeves of Wichita; daughters, Judy (Bob) Jantz of Hillsboro, Carol (Lyle) Hanschu of Lost Springs, Cindy Goentzel of Lost Springs; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at The Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.  Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at The Hillsboro M.B. Church Cemetery in Hillsboro. Family will receive guests from 6 to 8 Tuesday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  Memorials to Asbury Park or the Church in care of Jost Funeral Home P.O.
