Barbara-Strowig-Burns-1443708855Barbara H. Strowig-Burns, 89, 145 Millview, passed away Monday, September 28th, 2015 at Salina Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Strowig-Burns was born April 17, 1926 in Salina, Kansas, daughter of the late Lydia (Yost) and Leland M. Srack.
Barbara was a clerk typist in World War II. She attended Colorado Women’s College in 1946 and received an Associate in Arts. She then went to Kansas University and was “rescued” according to her late husband, L. Dean Strowig, to attend Kansas State University. She was a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Kansas State.
Barbara was a Music Teacher in Salina, Kansas. In her spare time she taught private piano lessons for over 25 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, Hummel Club and Kansas State Alumni Association. In 1977 she became the Isis Temple First Lady.
Other organizations Barbara belonged to were the Chapter BX PEO, Helianthus, Salina National Federation of Music Club, Symphony Guild, Bridge Club and Beauceant Club.
In addition to teaching, Barbara was a manager with Watkins for over 30 years who oversaw 20 dealers. She kept a large inventory of products in her home and was always available for her customers at the drop of a hat. She enjoyed staying active with the County Fair, Fall and Spring Shows and Farm Shows.
Barbara was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She found joy in singing with the church choir and playing and teaching in the bell choir. She taught and attended the Peacemaker Sunday School every Sunday.
She loved to travel with the First Bank Freedom Club and helped plan many of their trips. She enjoyed going on “mystery tours” all over the country. She loved attending the Jolly Mixers Dances.
She was the wife of Everett E. Burns and he survives. They were friends and married for 22 years.
Other survivors include two sons, Leland Ross Strowig, and wife Catherine, of Norco, California; Wesley Dean Strowig of Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons, Daphanie Dalton-Anderson and husband Jeff Anderson, Jonathan Strowig and wife Amy, of Minneapolis, Kansas; Jarred Strowig, of Knoxville, Iowa; granddaughters, Erin Miller and husband Jason, of Overland Park, Kansas; Kelly Strowig, of Kansas City, Missouri, Jamie Lynn Strowig, of Naples, Florida, step daughter, Penny Hulett and husband Mark, of Missoula, MT; step son, Richard Burns, of Garnett, Kansas; 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Mort Srack.

Charles “Chuck” J. Diers
(July 13, 1948 – September 28, 2015)

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, October 1 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM with family present from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Post Rock Humane Society.

Betty J. Major
(January 21, 1941 – September 25, 2015)

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. The casket will remain closed.
