Jack D. Brown, 70, of Salina, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015. He was born Nov. 29, 1944, in Salina, the son of Tracey and Lela (Fear) Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack graduated from Salina High School with the class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jack was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Salina VFW Post 1432 and a former member of AMBUCS. He worked for Federal Mogul, Great Plains Manufacturing, Holiday Mansion and Warta Buick.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Struble) Brown; son, Jeff and wife Tisha, of Hutchinson; daughter, Tammy Krob and husband Jay, of Salina; two sisters, Wilma Camren and husband Raymond, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Sheryl Alderson, of Spring Hill; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, with family receiving friends from 2-4, at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Sunflower Adult Day Services, AMBUCS or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent to or left at the mortuary.

Signe Overstreet, 94, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away Sunday, October 4th, at her residence. Signe was born in Bergen, Norway on July 29, 1921, a daughter of the late Signe (Hendrikson) and Georg Stensvaag. She attended First Southern Baptist Church in Salina while living here.
Survivors include two sons; James Overstreet and wife, Karen of Nampa, ID and George Overstreet and wife, Mary of Salina; six grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, John Overstreet.
At the family’s request there will be no visitation. Burial has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Barbara A. McDowell-Adams, 83, of Salina, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015. She was born August 20, 1932 in Whittier, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary L. Adams in 2010; her first husband, Wayne McDowell in 1989; her parents, Raymond and Anita (Dunagan) Troesh; sisters, Mary Stockert and Vivian Brummett; and her brother, Raymond O. Troesh.
She is survived by Val Martin “Barb’s Kid” of Salina; nieces and nephews, Tony, Pam, Val, Doug, Debbie, Rick, Ray Jr., Steve, Karen, Everettee, Linda, Adrinett, Gloriadale, Deb, Terry Adams, Jenny Green, Toni McElroy, Kevin Brummett, Scott Brummett, Traci Vega, Christie Crump, Sean Brummet, Robbie Brummett, Suzie Nudo, Teresa Stockert, Micheal Stockert, Stephen Stockert and Ronnie Stockert; and several nieces and nephews all the way from California, Texas, and Virginia;
Visitation will be on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 1 – 7 p.m. with family to receive guests 5-7 p.m. at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina, KS.

Funeral services for Michael A. Barnett, age 68, of Enterprise, will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Reverend Jack Craig officiating. Mike passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Abilene Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 2, 1947 in New Orleans, LA the son of Woodrow and Lochie (Corbett) Barnett. He graduated high school in Coleman, Alabama and received his Associated Degree.
Mike served his country for 27 years in the United State Army before retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military, Mike worked for the Solomon Corporation.
On May 17, 1974 Mike married Beverly M. Muse in Junction City. Together they enjoyed traveling and Mike loved history.
Survivors include his loving wife Beverly of the home; sons Terry and his wife Alejandra Barnett of Fullerton, California, Rusty and his wife Laura Barnett of Durham, North Carolina; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family of Mike will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Following the service on Friday, cremation is planned with a private graveside service Saturday with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Ilene Ross, 89 of Abilene passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at her residence. She was born June 23, 1926 in Abilene, the daughter of Lee and Katie (Burton) Sexton. She grew up in the Abilene area and attended the Abilene School Districts. On June 7, 1958 she was united in marriage to Milburn Ross in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death August 3, 2003. Ilene was a homemaker and also worked as a CNA in Linn, Kansas. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Abilene and later became a member of the New Trails Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her children, Michael Martin of Manhattan, Sandra Vandiver of Salina, Torri Crouch of Salina, Ronda Baier of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Debbie Swearingen of Olathe. They also raised two grandchildren, Crystal Mays of Abilene and Becky Timmons of Hutchinson. Also surviving are one brother, Mervin Sexton of Manhattan, sister, Melva Loader of Enterprise, 25 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Milburn, two children, Tammy Foutch and Terry Martin and a grandson, Jace Baier.
Funeral Services for Ilene will be 11:30 A.M., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Barbara S (Brin) Benoit Balthazor passed away Thursday, October 9, 2015 at the Hays Good Samaritan Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 83. She was born on March 20, 1932 in Damar, Kansas to the late Oliver and Mary (Morin) Brin. She grew up in Damar and graduated from Damar High School. Later she received a Teaching Certificate from Marymount College then graduated from Fort Hays State College with a Bachelor’s Degree and from where she received her 50 Year Alumni Certificate. She taught school for 27 years, starting in West Plainville, Webster, and then Damar (USD #269) before retiring.
On August 25, 1953 Barbara was united in marriage to Gilbert Vernon Benoit in Damar. To this union were born three children. Gilbert passed away on February 26, 1977. In 1979 she was united in marriage to Phillip Paul Balthazor. Paul passed away on July 6, 1992.
Barbara loved her friends, family, neighbors, community, and students. She devoted many hours of work helping to organize, edit, print, and publish the book, Centennial Highlights and History of Damar, Kansas: “Celebrating 100 Years,” 1888-1988. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, the Ladies of St. Ann’s, and a CCD teacher. In later years she enjoyed dancing, going on mission trips, making pilgrimages, and taking cruises.
Barbara is survived by her loving companion and best friend of 23 years, Norman Fisher of Hays; son Tim Benoit and wife Brenda of Damar; daughter Treva Benoit and husband Kerry McCue of Hays; stepsons Terry Balthazor and wife Kay of Columbia, MO, Greg Balthazor and wife Karla of Stockton, and Pat Balthazor; stepdaughter Paula Balthazor of Canyon, AZ; sisters Annette Benoit of Damar, Patricia Ficken of Damar, Iona Knipp of Hill City, and Sr. Diane Brin of Rome, GA; grandchildren Bryn Benoit, Alex Benoit, and Jena Ernsting; 11 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Mary Brin, husband Gilbert Benoit, husband Paul Balthazor, brothers Clearance, Levi, and Frank Brin, sisters Rita Newell, and Marida Newell, and son Terry Benoit.
As a teacher, Barbara impacted countless students and their families. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend she taught us all by example how to live with strong faith, abiding hope, and the greatest of all, deep love. Her love will be missed, but her legacy will live forever in the hearts and lives of all who knew her.
