Obituaries 27 November, 2015

all51123Dana S. Allen, 77, of Salina, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, in Wichita. She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Osborne, the daughter of Marion and Kathleen (Runzel) Kunish. She was an avid NASCAR fan and greatly enjoyed spending time with her family.

Dana was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Allen, in 1999.

Survivors include her son, Terry Allen and wife Callie, of Salina; two daughters, Shelly Driscoll and husband James, of Salina, and April Smith and husband Scott, of Thornton, Colo.; brother, Charles Kunish and wife Lynn, of Silverdale, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. Inurnment will be at a later date in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.

mcb51123vet_ffffffFrank J. McBride died peacefully in his sleep on November 23, 2015, at Windsor Estates in Salina, Kansas. He was born near Green, Kansas on April 23, 1923 to Frank and Lena McBride.

After graduating from high school, he served in World War II with the Army Air Corp as a radio operator attached to the 51st Troop Carrier Squadron in Italy, receiving the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He attended Kansas State University under the G.I. Bill of Rights, graduating in 1949 with a degree in business administration and a major in accounting.

His professional career in the grain industry spanned 42 years. He was a founding partner of Evans Grain Company in Salina, Kansas, retiring in 1991. He served as a president of the Kansas Grain & Feed Dealers Association, the Salina Board of Trade and director of the National Grain and Feed Association.

He was a long-time member of and served in various positions for Salina’s First United Methodist Church and was on the Board of the Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation for eleven years. He also served as president of the Salina YMCA and was on the boards of Kansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Kansas State University Foundation, Salina Area Chamber of Commerce and Salina United Way. For 64 years he was a member of the Salina Masonic lodge No. 60, the Salina Consistory and the Isis Shrine.

Frank was a skilled woodworker who established Weatherwood Products and handcrafted approximately 1,000 crèches that have been shipped to all 50 states and abroad. In retirement he became an advocate for feeding the hungry and personally delivered or coordinated the delivery of food and produce to various local organizations. In 2002 he was recognized for his efforts by National Public Radio with the E-town E-Chievement Award and in 2013 he was awarded the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service for the state of Kansas. He and his wife also established scholarship funds at Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Emma Bachus McBride. Survivors include children, Steven (Jana) McBride of Portland, Oregon; Susan (Patrick) Pike of Phoenix, Maryland; Scott McBride of Dallas, Texas, and Mark (Beata) McBride of Annandale, Virginia; grandchildren, Tess McBride, Portland, Oregon; Joe Pike, Chicago, Illinois; Sonia McBride, Seattle, Washington and Winston (Giuliana) McBride, Salem, Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellow Man International, P. O. Box 2993, Salina, Kansas 67402. Ryan Mortuary is handling arrangements.

5488986_220w_1James L. “B.J.” Adams, 67, of Salina, has passed away. He was born August 10, 1948 in Denver, CO.

He was the owner of the Sign Source and worked for Salina Regional Health Center in the Environmental Services Dept.

B.J. will lovingly be remembered as a man who had a love affair with the American Corvettes, time with his friends, and throwing his yearly Memorial Weekend Party.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Hoyle R. and Mildred M. (Loeffler)Adams, his son; Michael Adams and one grandson; Mason Adams.

Survivors include his sons James Jr., “J. J.” (Honey) Adams of Chesapeake, VA and John D. “J.D.” Adams of St Joseph, MO., a daughter; Melissa Whittington, his companion; Shelia Mitchell of Seneca, a brother; Robert “Joe” (Mickey) Adams of Fort Collins, CO; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 1 niece and 2 nephews.

A Celebration of life will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina, KS. 67401

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 30, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Mankato. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Education Fund or St. John’s Memorial Trust Fund. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Mary will then be taken to lie in state at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where the Parish Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday.

Lorraine Nyquist, 95, of Lindsborg, passed away November 26, 2015.

She was born June 11, 1920, the daughter of Gusaf and Anna Louise (Lofgren) Nyquist in Axtell, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers.

Lorrain leaves behind many loved ones including her brother, Kenneth Nyquist of Germany, newphews: Bob Nyquist (Janie) of Lindsborg, Steve Nyquist of Nashville, TN, and niece, Darlen Jukes.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 3, at 10:00am at Bethany Home Chapel, Lindsborg, with burial following at the New Gottland Cemetery.

Memorials may be designated for Bethany Home in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington, PO Box 386, Lindsborg, KS 67456.

Shirley Yvonne “Vonnie” Blomberg, 80, of Lindsborg, passed away November 26, 2015.

She was born October 13, 1935, the daughter of Alfred and Amy (Carlson) Isaacson in Bridgeport, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erwin Blomberg, son, Brian Blomberg, granddaughter, Carrie Jo Inken, great-granddaughter, Paige Johnson, and sisters: Arlene Major and Ardis Polson.

Shirley leaves behind many loved ones including her sons: Michael (Terry) of McPherson, Kenton (Kim) of Lindsborg, Richard (Lisa) of Lindsborg, Brent (LaDonna) of El Dorado, Kenneth (Kelly) of Salina, 19 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 1, from 4-7pm with family present from 5-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Burial will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, December 2, at Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg, with a Funeral Service following at Falun Lutheran Church at 11:00am.
