Norma J. Leiker, 86 of Salina, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015. She was born August 17, 1929, here in Salina to Albert M. and Esther L. (Carson) Dickerson.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Elmer A. Leiker, her parents, a brother; Leroy Metzger and a sister; Helen Jones.
Survivors include her children; Dennis E. (Jane) Carr of Grove, OK, a daughter; Cathy I. Olson-Frederick of Wasilla, AL., 3 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina. There will be no visitation.

Dr. Glen Everett Eaton, 87, of Salina, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015. He was born June 26, 1928 on a farm in Logan County, KS, to Benjamin Everett and Velma Frances (Miller) Eaton.
Dr. Eaton and the love of his life, Pauline Lorrine Jennings were married February 3, 1950 in Hunter, KS.
Dr. Eaton graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1950 and from the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in 1954. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology in Wichita, KS, in 1957.
After serving in the Navy from 1957-1959, Dr. Eaton moved back to Salina and provided anesthesiology services in Salina for 30 years. He also served as a Trustee at Kansas Wesleyan University, and was a member of the Central Kansas Amateur Radio Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Edward Eaton; two brothers, Roy and Gale Eaton; and three sisters, Lila Huffman, Letha Bode, and Dorthy Potterf.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Pauline, of the home; a daughter, Dr. Karen Eaton Garth and her husband John of Henderson, NV; two sons, Denis Everett Eaton and his wife Monica of Antioch, CA, and Steven Glen Eaton and his wife Linda of Sunnyvale, CA; and two grandchildren, Eric Michael Eaton and Julie Ann Eaton, of Sunnyvale, CA.
There will be no public services for Dr. Eaton, per his and his family’s wishes.

Johnny Joe Thayer, 61, of Salina, KS, passed away Sunday, November 29th. Johnny was born in Salina, Kansas on September 8, 1954, a son of the late Alberta (Rollet) and Alvin Thayer.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny Thayer, of Salina; sister, Eulah Johnson and husband, James of Salina; brother, Bob Thayer of Salina; and grandson, Johnny Thayer

Peggy Jane Sidener-Hansen, 79, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 30th, at Abilene Memorial Hospital.
Peggy was born in Abilene, Kansas on February 22, 1936, to the late Ethel E. (Schumann) and Floyd H. Funston.
She was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church, and a graduate of Solomon High School. Peggy served as the secretary for the Solomon Alumni Association for many years.
Peggy was the wife of Carl M. Hansen. They were married on April 15, 2006 in Abilene. She was formerly married to Delmar G. Sidener. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2003.
Survivors include her husband, Carl; daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Robertson, of Salina, Kansas, Lynette (Rojelio) Delgado, of St. Peters, Missouri, and Julie (Stan) Stratton, of Crystal City, Missouri; sons, Jerald T. Sidener, of Salina, Douglas (Leschia) Sidener, of Meriden, Kansas; step-daughter, Kelly E. (Curt) Conyers, of Pleasanton, California; step-son, Jeff C. Hansen, of Abilene, Kansas; step-nephew, Craig (Susan) Gahlbeck, of Fair Oaks, California; as well as 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Peggy is preceded in death by her first husband, Delmar Sidener; brother, Curt Funston; and sister, Donna Kirchhofer.
Memorial services will be held at Abilene First United Methodist Church, at 10:00 am on Friday, December 4th, with Pastor J. Collins officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Prairie Mound Cemetery Solomon, Kansas.

Tracy Martin Brandt, 45, of Salina, passed away November, 21, 2015. He was born March 6, 1970 to Sandra Klien. He graduated from the Olathe School for Blind and Deaf. He was employed by the Choices Network of Salina.
Tracy was preceded in death by his mother; and grandparents, Carl and Francis Martin.
He is survived by his brother, Chris and wife Terri Brandt, of Salina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the United Methodist Church of the Cross, Salina.

Sister Celestine Ruder died November 28, 2015, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS. She was 98 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 80 years. She was born in Antonino, KS, on May 15, 1917, to Henry and Mary Boos Ruder, the fourth of eleven children, and was baptized Rosaline. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 5, 1935. On August 14, 1935, Rosaline received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Celestine. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1936, and final vows on August 15, 1939.
Sister Celestine worked in the dietary departments of the Motherhouse, Marymount College, Sabetha Hospital and St. Mary’s Academy, Silver City, NM. In addition, she was cook and housekeeper for many parochial school missions in Kansas and Nebraska. She also spent several years caring for the sick and elderly. In 2005 she retired to the Motherhouse in Concordia. She moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in July of this year.
Sister Celestine was preceded in death by her parents and her 10 siblings. A Bible Vigil Service will be held December 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marcia Allen as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be December 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Fr. Jim Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Audrey Deane (Hillan) Mallam, age 89, died Sun., Nov. 29, 2015 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS. She was born on July 29, 1926 in Concordia, KS to Edward W. & Goldie M. (Parsons) Hillan.
She grew up in Concordia and graduated from Concordia High School in 1944. She married Charles B. Mallam on July 29, 1945 at the home of her parents. Born to this union were Karen Kay, Ronald Dean, Robert Steven and Susan Elaine.
Chuck and Audrey lived briefly in Concordia and were transferred to Clyde in the early 1950’s where they raised their family. Chuck worked for Kansas Power & Light and Audrey was a homemaker. Audrey later worked as a cook at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde. In 1993 they moved back to Concordia to enjoy their retirement and be closer to their grandchildren. Chuck preceded her on Dec. 8, 2006.
Chuck & Audrey loved square dancing and were members of the Aurora Starlighter Square Dance Club. They thoroughly enjoyed following their grandchildren’s activities in all sporting events and were their biggest cheerleaders. Audrey enjoyed the FW Club, Clyde Lions Club, Jolly 17 Circle and the United Methodist Women’s group. She also enjoyed working with crafts, always finding something to paint.
Her greatest joy was her family, in particular, the great grandchildren. She loved cooking large meals for both family & friends for the holidays and gatherings. She had 15 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Mallam and wife Pat, Kearney, NE & Bob Mallam and wife Glenda, Yukon, OK and daughter, Susan Jackson and husband Jim, Concordia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck; daughter, Karen Appleby; sister, Phyllis Tate; four brothers, Kenneth, Marion “Pat”, Edward Lee & Elbert & numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Al Paredes officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Laura Lee Schraeder, 74, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away November 29, 2015, at her residence.
She was born November 29, 1941, in Marysville, KS, to Maurice and Verna (Koepp) Greiveldinger. She moved to St. Mary’s in 1948, where met and married Carroll Schraeder on June 25, 1960. They moved to Council Grove in 1964. Together they had 4 children: Tharon, Lisa, Jeffrey and Michael.
Laura was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, crafts, and volunteering in the community. Laura loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Lisa in 1985. Laura is survived by her husband Carroll, of the home; sons: Tharon, of Overland Park, Jeffrey, of Portland Maine, and Michael, of Topeka; five grandchildren: Breanne, Kalen, Carly, Grant and Casey; and two great-grandchildren, Adriane and Duke.
At Laura’s request, she was cremated. There will be a memorial mass at St. Rose Catholic Church and a luncheon/reception at a later date. This will be posted on the website when determined.

MARION – Kay E. Heidebrecht, 76, passed away November 28, 2015, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita, Kansas. She was born November 20, 1939, at Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Clinton and Marguerite (Woodring) Swan. She was a graduate of Wichita East High School. On September 13, 1958, she was united in marriage to Leland Heidebrecht. Their union was blessed with two sons. In 1967, they relocated to Marion, where they owned and operated Quality Market. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Leland of the home; sons: Scott and wife Rolana of Marion; and Dale and wife Christine of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Shirley Steppe and husband Don of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother, Paul and wife Kathy Swan of Marion; and five grandsons: Tyson, Justin, Taylor, Peyton, and Evann Heidebrecht. A Visitation with family will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Thomas M. Whitlock, 21, of Manhattan, KS, died Friday morning, November 27th, 2015, at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born on July 21st, 1994, at Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Ray A. Whitlock, Jr., and Pamela Balderston Whitlock.
A Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Herington, with Pastor Troy Slater, officiating. A family Visitation will follow at 6:15 – 7:00PM.
Thomas had worked some but had health issues due to diabetes. He had the support of his best friend Ian and his wife Danielle, and second mom, Tammy. He was baptized at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was raised in Manhattan, and attended Manhattan High School with the class of 2013.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister Staci Joe Whitlock in July 2009.
He is survived by his mother Pamela Whitlock of the home in Manhattan, his father Ray Whitlock, Jr., and his wife Jessica, of Salina, 3 brothers Ray Whitlock, III, and his wife Louria of Ellsworth, Christopher Whitlock of Phoenix, AZ, Johnathan Whitlock of Salina, two sisters Crystal Whitlock of Independence, MO,and Alana Marie Whitlock of Salina.

Marjorie June Tonkin (Machin), 97, Council Grove, Kansas passed away November 30, 2015 at Diversicare of Council Grove.
She was born June 11, 1918 in Russell, Kansas the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Muck) Machin. When Marjorie was 4 years of age the Machin Family moved to Council Grove. Upon graduating from Council Grove High School, she attended Kansas University and graduated with degrees in Geology and Psychology.
On September 22, 1941, she married John W. Tonkin. She moved to Kansas City and worked at Phillip Petroleum while John served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, Marjorie worked alongside her husband while they managed several nurseries in Kansas, Connecticut, and Arkansas before retiring at the Council Grove City Lake in 1988.
Upon retiring she remained active at the Council Grove County Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and many service clubs. Marjorie will be remembered by her great love for animals, especially her poodles, and was an avid KU Basketball fan.
Preceding Marjorie in passing are husband John in 1998, brother, Donald Machin, Council Grove, and sister, Lois Ewalt of Huntsville, AL. She is survived by many friends, nieces, and nephews.
Although John and Marj never had children of their own, they were accepted parents and grandparents of many who considered them their family.
At Marjorie’s request, she was cremated. A graveside service will be at 11:00am, Friday, December 4th at Greenwood Cemetery.

John H. Backhus, 86, of Enterprise, died Sunday evening, November 29th, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born at Tampa, KS, on February 2nd, 1929, the son of John G. and Helena (Ottensmeier) Backhus.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm., Friday, December 4th, 2015, at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with Rev. Troy Slater, officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, North Tampa. A prayer service will be held at the church, Thursday evening at the 7:00 pm. The services are under the direction of the Zeiner Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mr. Backhus was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington. He enjoyed his friends daily at the Navarre Coop (except Sundays).
He married Marilyn J. Hamm on July 28, 1957, at Ramona; and she preceded in death on September 7, 1999. Also preceded in death by five (5) brothers (Erwin, Emil, Adolph, Herbert, and Edwin “Ed”), and three (3) sisters (Alma Meyer, Ella Heidemann, and Wilma Nunn).
Survived by four (4) sons: John “Sonny” Backhus of Herington, Mike Backhus (wife-Connie) of Junction City, Steve Backhus (wife-Kelly) Abilene, Gary Backhus (wifeJacque) of Salina; four (4) daughters: Sue Johnson (husband-Gail) and Beth Bryant (husband-Cary) both of Hope, Linda Strome (husband-John) of Herington, Jane Wilkens of Springfield, MO; two (2) brothers: Wilbert Backhus of Tampa, and Harry Backhus of Leavenworth; a sister Frieda Bentz of Tampa; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

DUANE ELSASSER, 88 died November 28, 2015 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, KS. He was born on June 9, 1927 in Clay County, KS. The son of Herman and Sophia (Bletscher) Elsasser.
Butch was raised in Athlestane township. He attended Athlestane grade school and graduated from CCCHS. Butch married Carole Sanberg on May 20, 1951. They made their home and farmed in Athlestane township with his father and brother, Harold. He retired from farming due to a back injury and sold automobiles and farm machinery for Auld Chevrolet in Wakefield. In 1967, Butch received his insurance and securities license and worked for a Topeka based company. Later, he returned to the farm and operated a dairy until his retirement in 1993. Butch was member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his wife Carole on July 31, 2006, parents, a brother and a sister.

Mary Katherine “Kay” Dechant, 69, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Saturday, November 28th, 2015 peacefully, at McPherson Hospital.
Mary was born in Corning, Kansas on March 8, 1946, a daughter of Jane Helen (Nault) and Albert Charles LaFond.
Kay attended the Marysville grade schools and high school, Marysville, Kansas and graduated from Seneca High School, Seneca, Kansas.
Kay was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson, Kansas.
Kay was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner.
Kay enjoyed making dolls and working with many different crafts, writing was her ambition and wrote many poems and stories about her children, family, and dogs.
Mary Catherine LaFond was united in marriage to Virgil Dechant on August 13, 1965 at Hays, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Russell, Kansas. In 1967 the family moved to Wichita, Kansas until 1970 when they moved to McPherson.
Kay is survived by her devoted and caring husband of over 50 years, Virgil Dechant, of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Kevin P. Dechant and his wife Jennifer, of Hamburg, Iowa, and Lisa M. Maguire, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her siblings, Patricia Ehrsam, of Seneca, Kansas, Charlene Creiver, of Seneca, Kansas, Arlene Melcher and her husband Elmer, of Seneca, Kansas, and Larry LaFond and his wife Nancy, of Haven, Kansas; her 5 grandchildren, Brittany Swart, Brandon Swart, Bradon Maguire, Bo Dechant and Bren Dechant; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Wilma Maye Beckwith, 101, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 6:45 p.m., Sunday, November 29th, 2015 peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center.
Wilma Maye Beckwith, the daughter of John and Clema (Phelps) Epps, born April 16, 1914 of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on November 29th, 2015. Wilma was born at her parents farm, rural Prescott, Kansas and graduated from Prescott High School, Prescott, Kansas. She then attended Fort Scott Junior College and received her master’s degree from Emporia State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas.
Wilma was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked as an English and Theater teacher for Moundridge High School, Moundridge, Kansas from which she retired.
Wilma was a member of First United Methodist Church, Kansas State Teacher’s Association, Raymer Society and the Red Barn Studio, Domestic Arts Club, and Ladies’ Reading Circle. She also enjoyed being a member of Friendship Force and Elder Hostel and was able to travel extensively throughout many countries.
Wilma M. Epps was united in marriage to Clifford Ora Beckwith on July 3, 1937 at Pleasanton, Kansas, and the young couple established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas. Clifford died on January 24 1984.
She is survived by her son, John Epps Beckwith and his wife, Sharon, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and her daughter, Cynthia Jane Rate, and her husband, Lyman, of Leavenworth, Kansas. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Chris Beckwith, married to Jane; Kevin Beckwith, married to Carrie; and Betsy Rate, married to Jay Berberick; and five great-grandchildren; Phoebe Beckwith, Jillian Beckwith, Jordyn Beckwith, Audrey Beckwith, and Catherine “Kit” Berberick. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
As well as her husband, Clifford, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Irma Megaughy and Mary Hutcherson, and her brothers; Donald Epps and Dick Epps.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kansas Ave., McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend Quentin Bennett officiating. Special music “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden” will be sung and accompanied by Lacey Wheeler.

Rosemary Rogene Butler, 89, of McPherson, Kansas and formerly of Lewistown, passed away Saturday November 28, 2015 at McPherson, Kansas.
Rosemary was born January 3, 1926 at Ipava, IL, the daughter of John and Alma Grace (Warner) Holmes. She married Clifford Butler on February 14, 1953 at Lewistown. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Rodger and John (Jack) Holmes, one sister, Louise Wilson, and in-laws, Will and Ruth Butler.
Survivors include one son, Vic (Denise) Butler of McPherson, KS; one daughter, Joni (Steve Boeke) Butler of Rochester, MN; sister in-law, Margaret Holmes, grandson, Nicholas (Angie) Butler, granddaughter, Amanda (Matt) Gregory, step grandchildren, Simon and Holly Pequeno, Clay and Jen Winter, and Garritt McConnell, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Rosemary graduated from VIT High School and attended Brown Business College in Peoria, IL. She worked at the Ipava State Bank, Farm Bureau, Berean Book Store, sold Avon, and was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Lewistown where she taught the “Little Lamb” Sunday school class for 40 years and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. She loved to travel going to Israel, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church in Lewistown, where visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 PM. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery at rural Lewistown. Irene Mae Hiatt, the daughter of Joe Bundy and Adelaide (Vanous) Bundy, was born September 2, 1929 at Rural Belleville, KS and passed away on November 26, 2015 at Republic County-Long Term Care, Belleville, KS, at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 24 days.
Irene attended the rural country schools of Republic County, later graduating from Belleville High School in 1947. Following her schooling, she worked at the Belleville Co-op for a short time. On March 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Duard W. Hiatt and to the union was born: Diane, Julie, and Kathy.
The couple made their home in Belleville, KS until 1976, when they moved to Junction City, KS where they owned and operated Junction City-Agri Service until their retirement in 1992. In 1993, the couple returned to Belleville, KS.
Irene was also a homemaker and attended the Landmark Church, Belleville, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Duard W. Hiatt in 2008, and one brother, Joe Elmer Bundy.
Irene is survived by three daughters, Diane (Mike) Hardenburger of Belleville, KS, Julie Patton of Abilene, KS, and Kathy (Steve) Anderson of Belleville, KS; 8 grandchildren: Joe (Becky) Patton of Huntington Beach, CA, Josh Patton of Abilene, KS, Jared Patton of Sneads Ferry, NC, Travis (Miranda) Hardenburger of Wamego, KS, Drew (Erin) Hardenburger of Belleville, KS, Bryan (Celia) Anderson of Spring, TX, Kylee ( Joe) Levin of Wichita ,KS, and Abbey Anderson of Manhattan, KS; 8 great grandchildren: Cade Patton, Collin Patton, Peyton Hardenburger, Beckett Hardenburger, Graceyn Anderson , Gavin Anderson, Rees Levin, and Brek Levin; 3 step great grandchildren: Jeff ( Marielle) Ecklund, Eddie Ecklund, and Nick (Kristi) Coffey; three step great great grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Geraldine Hiatt of Munden, KS and Judy Hiatt of Kearney, MO; other relatives and many friends.

Viola Emilie (Baum) Brown passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 85. She was born on February 27, 1930 in Susank, Kansas to the late Andrew and Katherine (Schmidt) Baum. She grew up with 13 brothers and sisters and graduated from Russell High School with the Class of 1947. On June 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Kenneth O. Brown, Sr. in St. John, Kansas. They were blessed with six children, Barb, Linda, Kenny, Greg, Blaine, and Shayne.
Viola was a woman of deep faith, love, and commitment. She raised her family and took care of her home while also working alongside her husband as owners and operators of their independent oil production company, Kenny Brown Enterprises. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also found time for playing cards, reading, gardening, making crafts, and of course orchestrating family sing-alongs at every opportunity.
The light and delight of Viola’s life was her family. From children all the way to great-great-grandchildren her love grew deeper and her spirit grew stronger with each new generation of family in which she took great pride and was so blessed. Everything she did was to care for those she loved the most, family, friends, and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Katherine Baum; husband Kenneth Brown Sr.; brothers Edward and Emil Baum; sisters Helen Wolford, Mary Mermis, and Rosie Thompson; and grandchildren Travis West, Leslie Brown, and Bo Brown.
Viola lived her life as an example to family and friends of faith, hope, and love. Full of mercy and grace she reminded us through her hard work and dedication, that the greatest of these is love. Her great love leaves an even greater legacy of love that will be cherished forever and never forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30 pm. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church.

Violet Katherine (Steinle) Stone, 90, of Russell, Kansas,
passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Violet was born May 8, 1925 on the family farm south of Dorrance, Kansas, the daughter of George, Sr. and Mollie (Keller) Steinle. She grew up in the Dorrance area.
Violet was united in marriage to Ernest Stone in 1974 in Great Bend, Kansas. They made their home in Great Bend.
Violet was a devoted wife and homemaker. She also worked in housekeeping at the Highland Manor. She worked at the Holiday Inn in Great Bend for over 30 years.
Surviving family include her daughter, Rita Boxberger of Russell, Kansas; Sister, Helen Wilhelm of Salina, Kansas; three grandchildren, Randy Boxberger (Cathy), Brenda Boxberger and Kim Augustine (Don) all of Russell, Kansas; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest in 2004; four brothers, Sam Steinle, Ben Steinle, Albert Steinle and George Steinle, Jr.; and three sisters, Eunice Barton, Wilma Belk and Ella Mae Moser.
Celebration of Violet’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. A private burial will take place. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. Mildred Catherine (Hall) Terry, 91, of Russell,
Kansas and formerly of Waldo, Kansas passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.
Mildred was born October 19, 1924 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of David and Ruth (Goodwin) Hall. She grew up in the Uniontown area and graduated from a rural high school. She worked for the Social Security Board in Maryland and worked for the Triumph Explosive Company where she made 4MM shells for the Navy. Mildred was united in marriage to Albert Lester Terry on October 20, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. They made their home on a farm near Waldo for a few years before purchasing the Bodmer Ranch. She then worked over 41 years at Klema’s IGA before retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Waldo United Methodist Church. She enjoyed raising birds and small animals and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving family include numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Albert on June 7, 2005; brother David Hall, Jr.; and sister Freida Lowe.
Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Waldo United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Grand Center Cemetery near Waldo. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Memorials have been established with the Waldo Senior Center or the Waldo United Methodist Church.
