3510927_wlppAlean Leola Sanders, Wells, passed away at age 89 years at the Ottawa County Health Center on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. She was born on May 14, 1926, to Benjamin and Bertha (Strecker) Keil near Galatia in Barton County, Kansas. She was the seventh of ten children.

She attended school through 8th grade. She left school to go to work helping families with household duties. She worked for the Deines Funeral home as a housekeeper and then moved to Russell to work as a telephone operator.

She married Darrell Sanders in Russell on October 2, 1960, and moved to the farm in Ottawa County near Lamar. Darrell preceded her in death in 2014. They had three sons and three daughters. She was a member of the Mt. Liberty United Methodist Church and the Flower Circle. She served for many years as the church treasurer. She also played the organ. She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was an excellent bread maker. She sewed for her family.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, and after surgery and radiation, she started a prayer shawl ministry. She has crocheted countless prayer shawls and doilies for family and friends in the past eight years.

She is survived by her children Anitta & Kevin Staats, Wamego; Farrell Sanders, Overland Park; Karolee & Tim Wiles, Hunter; Angela & Brian Pae, Fulton, Missouri; and Daren & Ruthie Sanders, Miltonvale. Grandchildren are Jonathan & Molly Staats, Amanda & TJ Bullock, Ben, Blake, and Will Sanders, Mariah & Chase Weis, McKenzie Wiles, Cody & Jason Pae, and Lane & Carlean Sanders. Her first great grandson, Kasen Darrell Emerson, arrived on November 30. Siblings include Fern Trent and Glenn Keil, Russell, and sister-in-law Roberta Keil, Galatia, and Bonnie Steffen, Wakefield, and brother-in-law Leo Whitley, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Lucile, Elsie, Clarence, Thelma, Claranetta, Leland, and Wayne and a son, Curtis.

Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lamar. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.

bau51130Mary Evelyn Baumgartner, 88, Salina, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. She was born Jan. 3, 1927 in Codell, Kansas to Ormas and Mary Richmond. For most of her life, she lived in Salina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruth, Olive, and Margaret; and one brother, Verland.

Mary is survived by two sons, Brad Baumgartner and wife Brenda, and Joe Baumgartner, all of Salina; a daughter Van Nelson of Kansas City, Kansas; a brother Gayle Richmond of Olathe, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina, with Rev. Gary Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

bur51128vet_ffffffRichard Ray Burger, 63, of Salina, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. He was born April 4, 1952, in Beloit, the son of Raymond and Marjorie (Miller) Burger.

He had served in the National Guard and had worked for Rusty’s Outdoor Sports, Wonder Bread and Menards.

Richard was an outdoor man and loved hunting, fishing, golf and guns. He loved music and played guitar on the worship team at Heartland Worship Center, Salina.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Jarvis; and a niece, Janell Burmeister.

He is survived by his wife, Kerrie (Lattin) Burger, of the home; daughters, Kaytee (Mary) Hunter, of Wichita, Kimberr (Rusty) Jarvis, of Conway, Ark., and Trisha (Brett) Huffman, of Salina.

His sisters are Karla Humfeld, of Salina, Michele Hixenbaugh, of Newton, Janie Burmeister, of Ellsworth, and Debbie Kochur, of Ohio; and brother, Brad Burger, of Salina.

His grandchildren are Sandra (Brett) Jensen, Savannah Nickel, Kylee Huffman and Kynzee Huffman.

Memorial services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Heartland Worship Center, Salina.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

mck51201Rheva Mae McKee, 99, of Lindsborg, died Tuesday Dec 1, 2015. She was born Jan 20, 1916 in Onaga, the daughter of Clarence and Violet (Grossnickle) Fairbanks.

Rheva graduated from Onaga High School in 1933, she married Basil McKee and they were married 68 years until his death in 2004. Together, Rheva and Basil owned and operated the IGA grocery store in Blue Rapids until retiring in 1971. They were winter Texans, migrating to Mission, TX for 20 years. While living in Salina they resided in Drury Place and Eaglecrest, and then Bethany Home in Lindsborg.

Survivors include one son Jerry McKee and wife Rosie of Salina; grandchildren, Brad McKee of Holbrook, NE, Roxie Hess and husband Roger of Bixby, OK, Corey McKee and Kristi Base of Salina, Ryan McKee and wife Sarah of Manhattan; five great grandchildren; sister, Hazel Wyss of Onaga; and sister-in-law, Olga Fairbanks of Westmoreland.

Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec 4, 2015, in the Fairmont Cemetery in Blue Rapids. There is no visitation.

Memorials are to the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

3510724_wlppJanice Lucile Elstrom, age 73, was welcomed into heaven on December 2, 2015 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas. She was born May 1, 1942 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Ivan Albert and Glenna Lucile (Reed) Keown.
On June 13, 1964, she married Allan C. Elstrom at the Christian Church in Arkansas City, KS. They were privileged to celebrate 44 years of married life together, and have three children: John, Steve and Kristi. Allan preceded her in death on October 30, 2008.
Janice was a 1960 Graduate of Arkansas City High School, Cowley County Community College Graduate and she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Kansas State University. She taught pre-school in the Salina area and was a Homemaker.
She was a member of the Ottawa Church of the Nazarene, but previously and in recent years attended Concordia Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Steve Elstrom (April), Concordia; John Elstrom (Bethany), Dover, DE.; a daughter, Kristi Hubert (Mike), Columbia, MO; 11 grandchildren, Alayna, Rebecca, Caroline, Josiah, Mathias, Linnea, Gideon, Verity and Benjamin Elstrom, Alexis and Abygael Hubert; and a sister, Gwen Edmiston, Overland Park, KS.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Lucile Keown, and sister, Karen Boyer
Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Concordia Wesleyan Church with Rev. David Redmond officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association or Concordia Wesleyan Church c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
