David Joe Turner, 61, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 10, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born March 10, 1954, in Hutchinson, KS to Thomas and Mary Lou (Eby) Turner. He was a 1972 graduate of Nickerson High School and graduated Hutchinson Community College in 1974. He was a member of Tenth Avenue Methodist Church, Hutchinson. He was an avid reader, had the ability to “think outside the box” was thoughtful, caring and loved watching the Food Network. His sense of humor and quick wit gave him the ability to easily interact with people, you always went away with a smile. That sense of humor never left him and was a blessing to all of us during his illness.
He worked in sales for many years and most recently at F.E. Moran (formerly SNC) in purchasing and receiving. His legacy will be life going forward in good times and bad, seeing humor when all else fails and to enjoy your life as it unfolds. He was a great inspiration to anyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed.
In 1975, he married Mary Leonida. They later divorced. On October 6, 1984, he married Janice Peterson, she survives. He is also survived by his fur cats Marbella and Sabrina, his parents, brothers Jim (Sherri), Lawrence; Bob (Susie), Hutchinson; fur brother Hank; nephews Matthew, Hutchinson; Ben (Laura), Brookline, MA; nieces Michelle (Jordan) Nuss, South Hutchinson; Jane Turner, Mission, KS; and great nephew Bronson Nuss.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes will be held at a later time. Words of Reassurance and Remembrance will be at 2 pm on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Dillon Nature Center. The family is hosting a come & go reception from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., to celebrate Dave’s life.

NILES — James “Jim” Pangrac, 83, of Niles, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015. He was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Niles, the son of Harold and Mary (Seim) Pangrac. Jim was a retired farmer/rancher.
He was a member of the 1st Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps, a Korean War veteran and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1432.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ladonna, in 1999; his brother, Ivan Pangrac; and his sister, Evonne Rasher.
Survivors include his son, Cary “Butch” Pangrac and wife Beverly, of Mission, Kan.; two daughters, Wendy Fabrizius and husband Don, of Niles, and Terri Hackett and husband Gary, of Beloit; grandchildren, Kenny Fabrizius, Jenny Pauls, Justin Hackett and Jessica Schurle; and great-grandchildren, Megan, Luke and Olivia Fabrizius, Chloe and Mackenzie Pauls, Tyler and Katy Bradley, Hunter Hackett and Connor Schurle.

Edward R. Holman, 73, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Salina to Edward and Katherine (Anderson) Holman.
He married Rose Marie Mount on Dec. 3, 1977, in Lincoln, Kan.
Ed graduated Beverly High in 1960. He had a passion for farming and agriculture. He was the owner and operator at Ed’s Welding and Repair, and retired from Turbine Specialties after 20 years of service.
Survivors include his sons, Ray Smith and wife Tena, of New Cambria, Lance Smith, of Hays, and Josh Holman, of Salina; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; and daughter-in-law, Lanita Smith.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.

Kathryn B. Whitmer, 57, of Wilson, Kansas passed away December 2, 2015 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. She was born January 8, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Ronald and Margaret (Simpson) Hook. She grew up in Kansas City and attended area schools. She was united in marriage to Nelson E. Whitmer in Kansas City, Kansas on May 16, 1987, and she moved to Wilson. Two years later, this union was blessed with a daughter, Desirae Rose.
After completing her GED, Kathy went on to become a Certified Nurse’s Aide and worked in area healthcare facilities. She enjoyed caring for others and was well known for being able to plan a party on a shoestring budget. Her hobbies include reading and working on puzzles, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Nelson, and daughter, Desirae, both of Wilson; three brother, Eddie Hook of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Ronnie Hook and Bobby Hook, both of Kansas City, Kansas; three sisters Alicia Hook of Kansas City, Kansas, Ronetta Higgins of Lucas, Kansas, and Laura Hook of Ellsworth, Kansas; two grandchildren, Donovan Proveaux and Huriyah Proveaux of Wilson; her step-mother, Hazel Hook of Kansas City, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Chucky Hook.

Charles R. Vague, 94, of Wilson, Kansas passed away December 11, 2015 in Salina, Kansas. He was born September 13, 1921 in Wilson to Arthur and Marion (Jellison) Vague. He grew up in Wilson and graduated with the class of 1939. He went on to further his education at Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas but his plans changed after being drafted to the United States Army. After his tour of duty was complete in 1945, he returned home to Wilson where he met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Ila Fern Kasper on June 21, 1949 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. She preceded him in death January 19, 2015. A lifetime resident of Wilson, he was a farmer and stockman in the Lincoln and Ellsworth County area.
Charles was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, Msgr. John F. McManus American Legion Post #262, and a previous Board Member for the Ellsworth County Farmers Cooperative Union. He was musically blessed and played the piano and banjo in a band when he first went to college. After retiring, he continued to live on the farm and was often found tinkering in his shed.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Vague (Mai) of Wichita, Kansas, and Terry Vague (Linda) of Ellsworth, Kansas, two daughters, Jeanette Koetkemeyer (Barry) of Ellsworth, Kansas, Karen Peschka (Mike) of Wilson, Kansas; 16 grandchildren, and 29 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ila Fern; two brothers Curtis and Keith and a sister Jean Williams.
