569ea49099b0cPEABODY – Arene Mae Entz, 91, passed away January 18, 2016, at Presbyterian Manor, Newton, Kansas.  She was born on October 18, 1924, near Moundridge Kansas.  She was the fourth of ten children born to Dan and Matilda (Goering) Kaufman.  She attended Pleasant Ridge grade school.  Her name was Irene with an ‘I’.  But when one of the older boys at her school chose to call her ‘Ire pie’ (egg pie), she was horrified and complained to her mom.  Her mom’s solution was to put an ‘A’ in place of the ‘I’ and that is how her name became Arene.  She accepted Christ into her heart and was baptized on July 21, 1940. Arene graduated from Moundridge High in 1943.  After graduation, she taught school for four years.  On May 16, 1947, Arene married Arnold Entz.    They moved into their new home the next day where they would raise six kids together and live out the rest of their lives.  Each summer she planted a garden and canned vegetables for the family.  She loved sharing homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls or any fresh baked treat she was making.  In 1983, Arene put her cooking skills to work at the Peabody Memorial Nursing home.  After working there for 11 years she retired and began spending more time volunteering at her church.  During Arene’s 91 years, rarely would you find her idle.  She was such a hard worker.  She enjoyed being outside helping on the farm or gardening.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, two children:  Quentin Entz and Grace Unrau; and siblings:  Mildred Klaassen, Leona Schmidt, Leonard Kaufman, and Jerrie Kruse.  She is survived by her children:  Rod Entz of Pretty Prairie; Dennis Entz of Peabody; Scott Entz (Chantale) of Alberta, Canada; and Karen Stuber (Greg) of Abilene; children-in-law:  Sandy Entz of Newton; and Paul Unrau of Moundridge; siblings:  Milo Kaufman (Betty) of Potwin; Dalmer Kaufman of Durham; Wilmer Kaufman of Frankfort, South Dakota; Reitha Klaassen and Jarold Kaufman (Joanne) both of The Villages, Florida; siblings-in-law:  Menno Schmidt of Buhler; Jeanette Kaufman of Frankfort, South Dakota; and Dwight Kruse of Marion; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.  All services will be held at Emmaus Mennonite Church, with the Visitation from 5 – 7 p.m., Thursday evening; and the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016,  Memorial Funds have been established for Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) or to World Impact, in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S Main, Whitewater, Kansas, 67154.
