Penny-Hulsey-1455200473Penny L. Hulsey, 67, of Howard, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, surrounded by family at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. She was a waitress at Flint Oak Hunting Lodge in Fall River, KS and worked at the Martin Marietta Rock Quarry in Severy, KS.

Penny was born on November 12, 1948, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Robert M. and Edna Pauline (O’Brien) Helgeson. She graduated from Galva High School in 1966. On March 9, 1966, Penny was united in marriage to James Hulsey in Galva, KS.

Survivors include: her husband, James Hulsey of the home; daughters, Sonya Allen (Scott) of Lawrence, KS and Patti Javener (Andy) of Topeka, KS; siblings, Sandra Blair (Bill) of Galva, KS, Brian Helgeson of Canton, KS, and Anita Walters (Steve) of Galva, KS; five grandchildren, Danielle, Abbi, & Darian Hess and Avery & Katie Allen; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Rose Hess.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Cory Hess.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 15, 2016, at Galva United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery, Galva. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, February 14, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Memorial donations may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children or a Humane Society of the donor’s choice in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Velma Ruth Palmer, 95, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care in Minneapolis, KS. She was born Dec.7, 1920 in Nemaha County, Corning, KS to Thomas H. and Myrtle M. (Jones) Morgan.

Velma was devoted to her family, always. Her heart was always ready to love one more. Until the last two years she never forgot a birthday or a name, down to the great greats, and she always wanted to know all the latest news about all of them. Her love and kindness included extended family with nieces and nephews, great and grand. She was Aunt Velma to many, Grandma or Great Palmer to even more, and friends to more than we can count. She was bright and shining, nobody’s fool, independent, but humble too, smart, and kind, and fun. A part of her has passed away, but much will be carried within us every day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred L. Palmer; sister, Hazel Patrick; and brothers, Harold, Lotie, and Ralph Morgan.

She is survived by her three children, Sally (Gary) Runnalls, Oakley, Tom (Kathy) Palmer, Solomon, and Brad (Gigi) Palmer, El Dorado; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, February 15 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Family graveside services will be Monday afternoon at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care and can be sent to Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Warsaw, MO. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., with rosary beginning at 8:00.

Visitation will be at the Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf, Friday, February 19, from 10 until 11 a.m.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Kimeo, KS.

Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Cemetery or the Kansas Hospice.

3597568Vivian Mae Tinkham, 102, died Thursday, February 9, 2016 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2016 at the United Methodist Church, Washington.

Visitation will be from 1 hour prior to the service, Monday, at the church.

Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Floyd in 1980; and brother, Hubert “Buss” Taylor.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Duane) Peters, Scandia, Dennis Tinkham, Bella Vista, AR; five grandchildren, Amy (Bryan) Rickard, Steve (Dora) Peters, Scandia, Kimberly (Rick) Wilson, Wichita, Leigh (Lori) Tinkham, Wichita, and Angela Hartwell, Wichita; brother James (Sally) Taylor, Lawrence; twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

A memorial fund is established to the United Methodist Church or the Washington County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 West 2nd Street, Washington, KS 66968.

Downs, KS–George Henry Weeks, 78, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

He was born August 11, 1937 in Beaver, Ks., the son of George S. and Viola (Leurman) Weeks.

George graduated from Cawker City High School and attended Fort Hays State College. He was a farmer/ rancher.

George is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Lynn,  in 1998.

Survivors include, his wife, Doretta; daughter, Cindy (Fred) Olsen of Manhattan, son, David (Debbie Barnes) of Downs, daughter, Susan (Jim) Younger of Hays, son, Todd (Mary) of Hillsboro; brothers, Edwin Dean (Carol) of Cawker City, Loren (Jolene Sherrard)of Downs, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Downs.  There will be no visitation.  Private inurnment will take at later date. Memorials may be given to Kansas City Hope Lodge and Downs Senior Center in care of Domoney Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Downs, KS  67437
