mor60316Debra Ann (Jackson) Morris, 49, of Salina, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She was born Sept. 14, 1966, in Salina, the daughter of John and Carol (Korbe) Jackson.

Debra grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina Central High School. She worked at Tony’s Pizza for several years and then Jewell County Hospital.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carol Jackson.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheleen Gilbert, son, Tyler Morris, and sisters, Barbara (Micheal) Reyer and Chris (Dennis) Zimmerman Jr., all of Salina. Grandchildren are Ethan Mullen, Alyssa Jackson and Izaya Jackson.

Debra enjoyed taking her children camping and spending time at the lake. She treasured her friendships of Amber Snively and Letty Bender as her special caregivers throughout the years preceding her accident.

Her kind spirit and love for her children and grandchildren was quite evident. Grandma Deb enjoyed her sleepovers with her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina.

Memorial contributions, in care of Ryan Mortuary, will be used to offset funeral expenses as well as help fund her grandchildren’s college education.

bru60318vet_ffffffLouis Andrew Brubaker, 91, of Salina, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016. He was born Nov. 3, 1924, to Harry B. and Esther N. Anderson Brubaker.

Louis graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. He was a former school teacher having taught for more than 15 years as well as the principal of Bavaria Grade School and Brookville Junior High. He was a pipefitter for many years working on power plants and industrial construction. Louis was an avid gardener and loved to dance. He attended Arthur Murray Dance School in the 1940s.

Louis served in World War II as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise, where he earned his Purple Heart.

Louis was a past commander for VFW Post 6485 in Ellsworth and was a member of the Pipefitter’s Local 145 Union Grand Junction, Colo.

Louis was preceded in death by his first wife, Mona Vopat Brubaker (1986) and Mildred Thomas Brubaker (1999); brothers, Harry Brubaker Jr. and Benjamin Brubaker; and his parents.

Survivors include wife, Pauline; children, Romeyn (Clint) Lauber, Marlene (Ken) Walker, Ronald (Debbie) Brubaker, Patricia Haas, Mary (AJ) Elbertai, Peggy (Gary) Crippen, and Pamela Kindall; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Ellsworth County.

In lieu of flowers, family request memorials to be made to Clifton Senior Center Meals on Wheels or Salina/Ellsworth VFW. Send in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
