3638116_wlppBetty M. Schenk, age 90, returned to her heavenly father on Wed., March 23, 2016. She was a resident at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia. Betty was born on May 14, 1925 in Agenda, KS to Joseph E. & Golda L. (Campbell) Doupnik.

Betty grew up in Wayne, KS & graduated from Concordia High School in 1944. She married Clarence F. Schenk on July 26, 1949 in Gainesville, TX. This union lasted almost 55 years. Clarence & Betty owned & operated Schenk Tree Surgery & Nursey for over 50 years. Betty grew as an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School, helped with church dinners and active in her church cluster. As a young mother, Betty was a Camp Fire leader and helped with Cub Scouts. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed canning, sewing, crafting for her family and loved her family & friends. She had a love for animals & every stray soon became a member of the family.

She is survived by her son, Steve Schenk; daughters, Susan Breault (Dr. Mark) & Loretta Hyman (Dan), all of Concordia; grandchildren: Dustin Breault (Dr. Dorothy), Bradyn Breault (Sheryl), Kelsey Larson (Jace), Destiny Bowers (Brice), Trask Breault (Ikay), Hailey Schenk; step grandchildren; Matt, Melissa & Michaela Hyman & 11 great grandchildren.

She will be greeted in heaven by her husband, Clarence; son, Larry; her parents; sister & brother in law, Yvonne & J.W. Robinson; great grandson & numerous family & friends.

A Life Celebration will be at 10:00 am, Tues., March 29, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 am to 9 pm Mon, March 28, 2016 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the O’Connor Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

Gregory D. Frederking, 58, of Salina and formerly of Valdez, Ala., passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 in Salina. He was born August 25, 1957 in Chicago, Ill. to Delbert and Marilyn (Reinert) Frederking.

Greg worked in the oil industry for 23 years starting with ExxonMobil in Alaska and then in the Sakhalin Islands, Russia, retiring in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother; brothers, Doug (Karen), Dan (Dana), and Tim (Kim); a niece, Daley and four nephews, Devin, Dylan, Nick and Nate.

A private family service will be held at a later date. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation.

LINCOLNVILLE – Janet D. “Jan” Smith, age 66, passed away March 24, 2016, at St. Luke Living Center of Marion, Kansas.  She was born September 27, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Frank H. and Irene D. (Kos) Werner.  On July 3, 1971, she was united in marriage to Phillip Smith.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 children:  Amy, Mark, and Jesse.  She worked for 17 years at the Marion County Courthouse in the appraiser’s office and  the clerk’s office.  She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Werner.  She is survived by her husband Phil Smith of Lincolnville; her children:  Amy and husband Brad Pagenkopf of Lost Springs; Mark and wife Lori Smith of Lincolnville; and Jesse Smith and wife Ashton of Pilsen; her mother Irene Werner of Marion; her siblings:  Frank Werner of Marion; and Kathryn Werner of New York; and 4 grandchildren:  Braden Pagenkopf, Garhett Pagenkopf, Elizabeth Smith and Sydney Smith.

Visitation with family will be held from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the Burdick United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in the Lincolnville Cemetery.  A Memorial Fund has been established for the Burdick United Methodist Church, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm,. Marion, KS, 66861.

vet_ffffffGerald Lee Winslow, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 4:49 p.m., Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016 while in the company of family members, at his home.

Gerald was born in Esbon, Kansas on April 9, 1932, a son of Estelle Lee (Thompson) and Forrest William “Hap” Winslow.

Gerald attended schools in Esbon, Marion, and McPherson.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Gerald loved to work on cars both as an occupation and a hobby. He joined his father Hap as a mechanic and body man in the Nash Automobile Dealership in McPherson and in 1946 owned and operated Winslow and Son Motor Company in which Gerald’s son, Bruce is now owner.

Gerald was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of Hutchinson, Kansas and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson, Wheat Heritage Threshing Club, Goessel, Kansas.

Gerald Lee Winslow was united in marriage to Marilyn Fern Bruce on March 28, 1955 at Franklin, Nebraska. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. Marilyn died on October 26, 2006.

He is survived by his children Rick Winslow and his wife Deanna, of Marquette, Kansas, Jim Winslow, of McPherson, Kansas; and Bruce Winslow and his wife Janell, of Moundridge, Kansas; his siblings, Carroll D. Winslow, of McPherson, Kansas, Dorothy Mae Meltzer, of McPherson, Kansas, and Pearl Elaine Crippen and her husband Bill, of Grain Valley, Missouri; his 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with one on the way!, other relatives and a host of friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Hap and Estelle; his wife Marilyn, a son Lee Allen Winslow, a daughter Fern Rene Korbe, and a brother Robert Eugene Winslow; brother-in-law; Verlyn Bruce, and sister-in-law, Donna Earnest

Friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 27, 2016 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

The funeral service will be held at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28th, 2016 with Pastor Terry Post and Pastor Tom Griffith officiating.

The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Wichita, Kansas and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street, McPherson, Kansas 67460.

June-Bacon-1458821388June Bacon, 78, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, surrounded by her family at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was a retired school teacher, teaching third grade at Roosevelt Elementary School in McPherson.

Treva June was born on December 18, 1937, in Norman, OK, the daughter of Roy Laurence and Minnie Bell (Erickson) Gill. She graduated from Central Academy and Central College, both of McPherson, and Greenville College in Greenville, IL. On June 27, 1959, June was united in marriage to Dean R. Bacon in McPherson. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2011.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jill Piper and husband, Jamie, of McPherson, KS and Glenna Biehler and husband, Ron, of Erie, CO; brother, Burton Gill and wife, Margie, of Tecumseh, OK; brothers-in-law, Tom Kegin of Harrah, OK and Larry Cox of Seattle, WA; and five grandchildren, Josh Piper, Joel Piper, Brandon Biehler, Ryan Biehler, and Molly Biehler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Dorothy Kegin and Anita Cox, and brother, Leon Gill.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 1, 2016, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Per June’s request, her body was bequeathed to K.U. Medical School. Inurnment will take place at the McPherson Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to Central Christian College for the Dean Bacon Scholarship or Hospice House of Hutchinson in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Nutsch,HelencoverpicovalHelen M. Nutsch, 90, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Helen was born on February 17, 1950, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Katherine (Rein) Dumler.  She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1944.  After High School, she worked for Reinhardt Construction.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Paul R. Nutsch on February 17, 1926 in Wichita, KS.  While Paul was away for military service, she lived in Wichita and worked at Boeing during the Korean War.  From this union Helen and Paul were blessed with two daughters Dee Ann and Nancy.  The family made their home in Russell and she worked with Paul to tend to the family farm.  The farming and ranching was not only hard work for Helen but it was also her passion.  She also enjoyed reading newspapers as well as farming and ranching papers and magazines but her first love was taking care of the farm. 

Surviving family include her husband Paul of the home, daughters Dee Ann Nutsch of Wichita, Kansas, and Nancy Nutsch of Russell, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Eva Dunlap and Irene Ball and brother Carl Dumler.

A memorial service to honor Helen’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 01, 2016, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Ron Wedel officiating.  Cremation has preceded the services and inurnment of the cremains will follow the chapel service.  Family will greet guests before and after the service.  Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler  Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
