6400961_220wHenry Diaz Martinez Sr., 81, of Salina, danced into Heaven, May 21, 2016. He was born July 20, 1934 in Stamford, TX.

Henry was a loyal employee of J.S. Frank Construction for 20 years, as a heavy equipment operator. Henry and Dolores purchased, owned, and operated Dallas Cleaners for 38 years, providing first rate service for their clientele.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Angela (Diaz)Martinez. His brothers, Joe and Manuel Martinez and his sister, MaryMartinez, all of whom he loved and cherished.

Henry loved and cherished his wife, Dolores, of 62 years very deeply.Henry and Dolores raised 3 daughters, Linda, Debbie, Hope, and one son,Henry Jr. The father Henry strived to be, loved his family with all of his heart, so much, that the thought of his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren made his heart ache with love, pride, and joy.

Henry danced his way through life with his cherished, Dolores. Their dancing was a sight to behold by all who had the pleasure of watching them. While dancing, they appeared to be floating on air. One of the things always mentioned by anyone who knew them is the memory of watching Dolores and Henry dance as if they were in a world of their own, filled with love.

He worked hard, his entire life, to provide and care for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He did this with a passion which they will each continue to carry as they live their lives and fulfill their destinies. He was counted on to offer advice, acceptance, and unconditional love; which he never grew tired of sharing.

Henry’s sense of humor was shared with all that came to know him. He could be counted on to have a smile on his face, an ornery twinkle in his eye, and a shared conversation that filled the air with smiles, laughter, and joy.

Henry and Dolores gave the gifts of wisdom, strength, and the ability to share love. It was, and is, their hope that these gifts will be forever remembered and that each of their loved ones continue to pass these on. He will be cherished and greatly missed.

“He gave us all he had, without even trying. He was a great man, father, and grandfather.”

Judy LutzJudith Elaine Lutz, 70, of Montgomery, TX, and formerly of McPherson, passed away at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 peacefully while in the company of family members, at Conroe Regional Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

Judith Elaine “Judy” Lutz, the daughter of Daniel J. and Erlene Mildred (Friesen) Borth, was born on December 6, 1945 at McPherson, Kansas. She was one of seven children born to this union, Carol, Mary, Judy, Anne, Barbara, Clark, and Michael. She was baptized and became a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She attended the McPherson schools and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1963. She was united in marriage to George R. Lutz for 20 years. Judy had a full and interesting life. She carried the Borth family trait of being honest, hard working and of strong will. Always giving her all in every situation or job she held. With only a high school degree, Judy would excel in her life. She had an early career as an electrician being promoted to Group Leader for Road Ranger, a travel trailer company. She was hired with Sterling Drug, a pharmaceutical company and started as an hourly employee but soon worked her way up to become a Supervisor. She was a great mentor and friend to all of her coworkers. After her leave from Sterling Drug, she moved to Illinois where she worked for a dental office where she was introduced to her husband George. They began vacationing in Florida and loved it so much they took up residency and lived there for 17 years. Judy enjoyed keeping busy and could never seem to fully retire. After a couple different part time jobs she acquired a position with a maxillofacial/oral surgeon for many years. At times, she would assist with procedures. Attempting retirement again didn’t last long. Through her neighbor and good friend she returned to work part time at Home Equity Realty.
Judy loved entertaining and was a master in the kitchen. She was truly a gracious hostess. She was deemed by her siblings to be the queen of making Bean Dumplings, a traditional family recipe her mother made often as a Saturday meal. During holidays she was always baking goodies, making candies, caramels, fudge and poppy seed bread. Along with baking, she could fry chicken as well as her mother did and her chicken noodle soup was the best ever made.
Judy’s husband helped her to overcome her fear of water. She learned how to swim and even enjoyed the chance to go snorkeling. Judy could often be found in her back yard enjoying her pool and her turtles, “Tina and the Triplets”. Not only did she learn to swim, she also took line dancing lessons. She became a master at her moves. She and her husband enjoyed dancing on a Saturday night.
Judy loved music and was also an avid reader. She would often be reading 2 or 3 murder mystery books at a time. Music was always playing in more than one room as well as outside in her garage, where she spent many a day with numerous neighbors stopping by for a visit. Her freezer was always full of ice cream treats for her neighborhood “grandkids”. Judy began container gardening as well. She grew tomatoes, cucumbers and many herbs. There were numerous pineapple plants she started and avocados as well right beside her beloved Foxtail Palm tree. Judy had a natural talent for home decorating. Her home was a beautiful, inviting place to be. She was known to move things around in a home where she would be visiting for a better visual.
Judy lived in Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Illinois and Florida. She traveled to Germany and Italy. Of all these places, Florida was her favorite. She loved the tropical flora, the beautiful birds, beaches and most of all, the warm weather.
Judy was a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She always had a warm smile and hug for those around her.
Judy E. Lutz, 70, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Conroe Regional Medical Center, Houston, Texas. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Daniel and Erlene Borth, and on Dec. 28th, 2015 by her husband George R Lutz.
Surviving family members include her two daughters, Cheryl Bishop of Houston, Texas and Karen Wagner and her husband Kenny of St. Francis, Mn.; three step daughters, Jody Sanchez and her husband Rich, Kathy Lutz and Jenny Lutz all of Illinois; 4 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren; her siblings, Clark Borth and his wife Susanne of British Columbia, Canada, Carol Tarrell of Titusville, Florida, Mary Schultz and her husband James of Springfield, Ill., Michael Borth of Houston, Texas, Anne Shimsky and husband Frank of Highlands, Nc., and Barbara Geist and husband Larry of Hutchinson, Ks.
The graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating. Special music “Amazing Grace” and “Some Where Over The Rainbow” will be sung by Michelle Knight.

ThumbnailArchie Milton Edgell was born April 13, 1925 in Rural Gove County, Kansas to Vernon and Rilla (Brockway) Edgell. May 20, 2016 surrounded by family, holding Charlene’s hand, with his great-grandson, Evan, patting his whiskers and giving wet kisses, Archie left this world peacefully.

As we remember Archie, the things that come to mind are his strong character traits, his dedication to family and his church. At a young age Archie learned how to work. He was supporting his family as a teenager. This hard work carried him through life, passing it on to his children, nephews and grandsons. His sons remember when they wanted a day off, Archie let them know that being self-employed didn’t offer that luxury too often. He just told them, “If I don’t get my head off the pillow we don’t eat!” That was Archie.

Archie and Charlene Maupin were married November 19, 1960 in Hill City. As a family man, Archie began gathering relatives together for the “Edgell Reunions”. These are continuing today not only in Kansas, but also Oklahoma, Utah and Washington. With his family and friends, camping and water skiing brought lots of stories: boat flooding and bailing water, running into a sand bar and all those skiing lessons. Archie was always up early at the lake as he had to be the first one on the water “to stir it up.”

Archie could always be counted on to help others, whether it was moving day, repairs to homes or tragedies. This also carried on to his church mission. He would go to help victims of fires and floods, and trips to Mexico and Honduras; building churches, working circles around the younger men.

Archie will be remembered with love by all who knew him. We will never forget his infectious smile, his overalls, and the dash of his truck covered with fig newtons, licorice, Planter’s peanuts, and rattlesnake rattles. He had many “isms”. Some of them were his love for coffee, naps after lunch, reading and collecting National Geographic Magazines. His CB handle was “9 Nails” because he had planed off one pinky finger.

Archie lived his life as a carpenter and family man. He took pride in his craft and his family. His generosity, work ethic, humility and selflessness were his greatest qualities that he would want us to aspire to. Rest in the arms of the Lord, Archie. Well done, good and faithful servant.
