rya60526Mary Jane “Merk” Ryan, 90, of Salina, went to her heavenly home Thursday, May 26, 2016. She was born June 1, 1925, in Salina, the daughter of Bernard and Genevieve (McMillin) Ludes.

A mother to many and friend to all, Merk was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. She never left a belly empty or a heart less than full and truly found joy in taking care of family and friends. From baiting a hook to preparing a family feast, she approached all things in life with spunk and grace. To be loved by her has been a blessing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jack, Bill, Jim and Patricia.

Merk is survived by her husband of 72 years, Guy R. Ryan Jr.; three sons, Guy III (Rhonda), Jim and Jerry (Rhonda); siblings, Regina, Eddie (Pat), and Joan (Tom); 10 grandchildren, Marci, Mandie, Cara, Tara, Jeremy, Jimmy, Heather, Matt, Erin and Jaime; and 10 great-grand children, Kelsey, Kyle, Grace, Anna, Nathan, Makenna, Colton, Kaitlyn, Tanner and Mazie.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Ryan Mortuary, with vigil service at 6:30.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with burial following at Hillcrest Mausoleum in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Memorials are to Sacred Heart Cathedral or Sacred Heart Jr./Sr. High School.

vet_ffffffDarrell A Baker, 86, of Solomon, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016. He was born November 13, 1929, in Minneapolis, KS, the son of Boyd and Margaret (Freeman) Baker.

He married Peggy (Cooley) Weller on July 24, 1970

He is survived by his daughter, Rita (Robert) Macy of Abilene, KS, sons, Douglas (Marva) Weller of Salina, KS and Chris (Marilyn) Weller of Tonganoxie, KS. Grandchildren, Shayna (Rob) Barbee, Michael (Joycelyn) Weller, Joseph (Kaysha) Macy, Ashley (Mark) Gepner, Mark (Kara) Macy, Madison Weller, and Christy (Joey) Oxley. Greatgrandchildren, Nathan, Andrew and Ryan Weller; Makenna and Savanna Barbee; Anna, Nolan and Ella Gepner and Mason McNeil.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy, and sister Dorothy Rhea.

Darrell was an Army veteran, worked for Rhea Construction Company and for USD 305 in Salina, KS until his retirement. Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing pitch, and repairing small engines.

Visitation with the family will be held at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon, KS on Tuesday, May 31 from 6-8:00PM. Service will be at the Solomon Yoked Presbyterian Church in Solomon, KS on Wednesday, June 1 at 10:30AM. with Reverend Roland Slater officiating Graveside services will be at 2:00PM on June 1 at Roselawn Cemetery in Salina, KS.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Solomon Yoked Parish Church and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 308, Solomon, Kansas 67480.

Ronald L. “Ron” Garver, SR. was born April 6, 1948 the son of Dwight and Alice (Ritzman) Garver in Abilene. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1967 and attended Salina Area Vo-Tech.
Ron was a telecommunications technician for United Telephone Company for over 40 years. He was a member of the Abilene Bible Baptist Church in Abilene and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to church, hunting, fishing, but especially spending time with his family.
On May 2, 1969 he married Lavina Zook in Abilene. She survives of the home. Ron is also survived by his daughters Lori, Lisa; son Ron II; brothers Lee Garver of Talmage, Denny Garver of Abilene, Rick Garver of Manhattan, Roger Garver of St. George; sister-In-Law Donna Garver of Andover; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don.
Services for Ron will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Abilene Bible Baptist Church in Abilene with Pastor Dan Schiffbauer and Pastor Steve Prickett officiating. Ron’s final resting place will be in the Bethel Cemetery in the Moonlight Community.
Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home Tuesday and from 1:00 p.m. – service time Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Ron’s name to the Abilene Bible Baptist Church Missions or for his Grandchildren’s College Fund and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
