Kenneth A. “Bull” Cunningham

42, passed away Thursday, June 16th. He was born November 27, 1973 in Salina, the son of Calvin K. and Judy A. (Signer) Cunningham. Growing up in Abilene Kenny attended local schools. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. Kenny enjoyed race cars and anything automotive. He was preceded in death by his father in 2010, mother in 2011 and a brother, Calvin Cunningham Jr. in 1972.
Survived by; a daughter, Tessa Cunningham of Enterprise; a son, Tristan Cunningham of Enterprise; a girlfriend, Sarah James of Hope; a sister, Marie White of Gastonia, NC; a brother Everett Cunningham of Abilene; two nieces, Harley and Tory of Chapman; two nephews,Karl and Kyle of Mississippi and an aunt, Linda Hengelfelt of Nebraska.
The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 22nd at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsay Brummer officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Kenneth Cunningham Memorial Fund. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.

vet_ffffffRobert J. Martell, 88 passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 in Salina, Ks.
Robert was born July 1, 1927 in Mitchell, SD to John A. Martell and Christina K. (Shultz) Martell.

Robert attended school in Mt Vernon, SD and worked as a farm hand for Frank Whalen in Stanley County, SD until enlisting in 1945.

In 1950 Robert married Lucille L. (Wymann) while stationed at Fort Riley, Ks. He was deployed in 1952 to Korea as a sergeant with Co D 702 Infantry. Completing his reenlistment in 1955 and moving to Abilene Ks he was employed by Ershams Inc. and Abilene Milling until relocating to Pierre, SD in 1957.
Robert was employed by the State of South Dakota as building maintenance for the State Capital in Pierre, SD. He completed the grounds keeping program from South Dakota State University in 1967.

Returning to Abilene, KS in 1974 he was employed at Vacublast Inc. until joining the Abilene High School maintenance department of USD 475 until retirement.
In 1987 his first wife Lucille passed away. In 1995 Robert married Irene (Jones) and together they traveled and visited grand children and family. They also volunteered at area churches and nursing facility playing music when ever possible.

Robert’s passions were his family, music, gardening, pets and Red Sox baseball.

Daughter; Bonnie (Martell) Green and husband Glenn of Assaria, KS.
Step sons; Keith Jones of Solomon, KS, Michael Jones of Fayetteville , NC, Wayne Jones of Solomon, KS
Grandchildren; Glenda (Green) and husband Jason Cross of Sacramento, CA,
Susie Green of Kansas City ,Mo, Chelsie Green of Kansas City, Mo,
Holly(Martell) and husband Chance Lagergren of Argyle, TX, Bryant Martell of Argyle, TX.
Step grandchildren;, Nate Jones and wife Shayla (Woodruff) of BoisD’Arc, MO.
Derek Jones of Hastings, NE
Great grandchildren; Aidyn and Luke Lagergren of Argyle, TX.
Step great grandchildren; Ireland, Jayden, and Tanner Jones of BoisD’Arc, MO.

Preceded in death by first wife Lucille in 1987: second wife Irene 2005.

Services for Robert will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Reverend Spencer W. Green officiating. His final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Parish Rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday June 21, 2016 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with family receiving friends following. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Leona (Nonie) M. Herpel, age 97 of Dorrance, Kansas, died Friday, June 17, 2016 in Wilson, Kansas.

She was born January 18, 1919 in Ellsworth County, Kansas to Reinhardt Schmidt and Kate (Milberger) Schmidt.

She was married to Burton Herpel in Anthony, Kansas.

She is survived by her brother Willis Schmidt of Dorrance and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David Schmidt and Alvin Schmidt, and sisters Helen Ginther and Edna Dumler-Kruckenberg.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10 AM at First Lutheran Church in Dorrance. Burial will follow in the Dorrance City Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 7 to 9 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Foster Mortuary in Wilson, who is in charge of the arrangements.
