hea60810Gertrude Loretta Heard, 79, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016. She was born April 2, 1937, in Herington to Dr. Laurence and Mildred (Dunn) Moore. She was preceded in death by husband, Norman Heard, and brother, James L. Moore.

Upon graduation from Wichita State University, Loretta taught elementary students in Topeka, Mesa, Ariz., and the last 40 years in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Survivors include her sister, Sara Mosier; sister-in-law, Ruth Cashmore; three nieces, Sharon, Christine and Jamie; and nephew, Steven.

Private family burial will be held at a later time.

ben60811Sandra Kay Barnes Bennett, 71, of Salina, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. She was born Dec. 4, 1944, in San Diego.

Sandra was always a lady, caring and proud. She grew prettier each and every day of her life. She was employed for many years at Salina Regional Health Center as a housekeeper and touched countless lives there.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jerry L. Barnes, in 2006; daughter, Christy L. Barnes, in 2014; and infant grandchild, Selena Barnes.

Sandra is survived by her husband of six years, Gerald D. Bennett; daughter, Leslie Childers; grandchildren, Alexis, Ginger and Miles Childers; great-grandchildren, December Jarvis and Cooper Reiss; sister, Linda R. Bennett; stepchildren, Teresa (Michael) McGarry and Timothy (Robin) Bennett; and stepgrandchildren, Amanda McGarry, Christina McGarry and Andi-Li Patterson.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Salina Heights Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center.

vet_ffffffFred A. Davis Jr., 78, passed away Sunday, August 14th, in Abilene. He was born January 10, 1938 in Ada, Kansas, the son of Fred A. Sr. and Cecil L. (O’Dell) Davis. Growing up in Talmage, Fred attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1956. He was a Navy Veteran. After discharge, Fred had a carpentry business in the bay area in California specializing in custom cabinets, furniture and remodeling until moving to Abilene in 1997. On December 20, 1992, he married Elaine Dannelley. Most of their married life was spent in Abilene. Fred enjoyed reading, woodworking, playing pool and bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.
Fred is survived by: wife Elaine Davis; three daughters, Dayna Davis, Maxine Smith, Wendy Cave; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 5:30 PM Thursday at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggest memorial contributions in his name be made to the Abilene Public Library. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
