David Milton Goosman, 68, Bennington, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 16, 2016 while traveling home from the Houston and Galveston, TX area. He was born July 18, 1947 in David City, NE to Milton and Noma (Marquis) Goosman.
He served in the United States Navy for four years. Two of those years were in Vietnam and a post on the USS Lexington. Dave was united in marriage with Leanna (Becker) Blake on February 7, 1981 at the Community Bible Church in Minneapolis. He considered the Bennington Bible Church to be his church home. Dave retired from the United States Postal Service in 2005.
Dave enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and numerous pets through the years. He also enjoyed farming and traveling. He and Leanna’s highlight was their trip to Alaska which covered 14,000 miles.
Survivors include his loving wife Leanna of the home; step-sons Brady Blake and his wife Jennifer and their children Jaxon, Bradyn, Corbin, and Jordan all of Abilene and Barry Blake and his wife Tara and their children Cailyn, Carlyn, Grayson, and Granger all of Minneapolis; siblings Robert Goosman, Mary James, Katherine Young, Milton Goosman, John Goosman, and Thomas Deepe; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Daisy Mae.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, at the Bennington Bible Church. Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Bennington Bible Church and will be used for the Kamp Out program.

Norma Jean Zoch, 81, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 17th, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab, Kansas.
Norma was born in Diller, Nebraska on December 21, 1934, a daughter of the late Leola V. (Williams) and Merle A. Rhoden.
Her younger years were spent in Fairbury, Nebraska where she attended grade school and junior high school at Central Ward.
On May 24, 1952, Norma married Edgar August George Zoch in Fairbury, Nebraska. Born to this union were 6 sons and 2 daughters. Edgar preceded her in death on May 18, 1993.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Survivors include six sons, Edward Zoch (Terri), of Salina, Kansas; Delvin Zoch (Debora), of Hutchinson, Kansas; Lawrence Zoch (Linda), of Huntington Beach, California; James Zoch (Vicki), of Oconto, Wisconsin; Roger Zoch, of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Charles Zoch (Jana), of Huntington Beach, California; two daughters, Cheryl Zoch-Hodges of Florence, Wisconsin and Vickie Zoch of Florence, Wisconsin; brothers, Wayne Rhoden (Reta) of Chubbuck, Idaho, Vernon Rhoden of Ellsworth, Kansas, Dennis Rhoden (Lori) of Niles, Kansas, sister, Barbara Schwartz of Beatrice, Nebraska.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Marie Ann Rhoden and Amelia Katherine Rhoden; grandchildren, Ryan Zoch and Jennifer Zoch.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, Kansas.
Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Leonard Lickteig officiating.
Interment will be at Gypsum Hill Cemetery Salina, Kansas.

Paul L. Nelson, age 91, longtime Glasco resident entered into rest on April 17, 2016 at the Nicol Home, in Glasco, KS. He was born September 20, 1924 in Barnard, Kansas to George and Jewell (Cummings) Nelson. He was third of seven children.
After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Gunners Mate aboard the USS Haggard in the South Pacific during WWII.
He met Dorothy Orndorf in Bremerton, Washington and they married in Norfolk, Virginia in 1945. They had over 45 years together before her passing in 1991.
To this union three children were born: Paulette Bray (David), Craig, CO.; Delores Christensen (Bill), Pinedale, WY & Russ Nelson (Michelle), Westcliffe, CO.; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He retired from Northern Natural Gas Pipeline and also worked for several area farmers. He drove the ambulance, taught hunter’s safety and coached girls’ softball. He was proud to be part of the Glasco community.
He was preceded in death by his, wife Dorothy, parents, four sisters, Ione Hart, Thelma Stanley, George Ann Stevens, and Jayne Olson, two brothers, Wayne Nelson and Palmer Nelson.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation
Family inurnment will be held at a later time in the Glasco, Cemetery.

Dale R. Ryser, age 78, entered into rest on, Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia. He was born on April 4, 1938 in Haddam, Kansas to Edward and Ruth Ryser.
He graduated grade school from District #59 Ames and Clyde High School 1956
He served in the USMC from 1956 – 1959 and served 3 years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged with rank of Sgt.
He married Faye Ellen Kagle on July 25, 1969 in Fairbury, NE. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2003.
He was a member of the Concordia Moose Lodge#1428 where he served as past governor.
His hobbies include fishing, hunting, building models, small engines, entering them in the Cloud County Fair.
He retired as a Plant manager for Abram Ready Mix in Concordia after 43 years of service.

DELAVAN – Mildred Mae (Sturgis) Harkness, 102, formerly of Delavan, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Diversicare of Council Grove. Mildred was born January 22, 1914, in Delavan, Kansas, to Ross and Della Sturgis. She attended Delavan Grade School and High School, graduating in 1932. Mildred received her Life Certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in 1934. She spent six years teaching in Morris County schools and was proud to have taught in a one-room schoolhouse. On May 22, 1940, Mildred married Milan Harkness in Delavan. They were married 70 years. After spending several years at home as a mother and farmer’s wife, Mildred again entered the teaching field in 1956 in Herington, KS, where she taught for 23 years. In 1961, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kansas State Teachers College and then received a Master’s Degree in 1971. She retired from teaching in 1979. Mildred enjoyed attending church class meetings at Wilsey Christian Church, cooking for hired men on the farm, maintaining her home, supporting local schools, and spending time with her family. She was an active member of the Delavan Extension Homemakers Unit for more than 30 years. Mildred especially loved landscaping. She spent much of her time working with shrubs, mowing the yard, and planting flowers. Mildred is survived by her son, Darrell, of Council Grove; sister, Muriel Herpich, of Minneapolis; granddaughters: Tracy Watkins and husband Dave , of Burlington; Kelly Brakenhoff and husband Jeremy, of Lawrence; Christy Over and husband Dirk, of Burlington; 13 great-grandchildren: Jace and Myka Watkins, Jeth, Naomi, Abel, Judah, Amos, Liberty, and Fisher Brakenhoff, and Bradley, Brian, Mallory, and Troy Over. Honorary family members are Jim and Melaney Johnson, of Delavan. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Della Sturgis; her husband, Milan Harkness; a sister, Irene Deewall; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Harkness; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Skye Brakenhoff.

Clara M. Goodrich, the daughter of John B. West and Alice (Coulter) West, was born June 22, 1918 in rural Narka, KS and passed away on April 15, 2016 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS at the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 23 days.
Clara grew up in the Haddam, KS area attending the rural public schools.
On November 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to Charles F. “Buss” Goodrich.
The couple made their home in Wichita, KS for many years where they both worked for Beechcraft Manufacturing until their retirement, moving back to Haddam on July 1, 1980.
Clara was a member of the United Methodist Church of Haddam, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice West, her husband Charles “Buss” Goodrich on February 15, 1998, several brothers and sisters, and one half-sister.
Clara is survived by one sister Ruby Harding of Lolo, Montana; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Lorene Goodrich of Belleville, KS, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS, with Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock, officiating.
Interment will be at the Haddam Cemetery, Haddam, KS.

Donald Wayne “Donny” Pitts passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 61. He was born on August 27, 1954 in Smith County, Texas to Vonnie Alfred and Frances Marie (Bradshaw) Pitts. He grew up in the Tyler, Texas area, graduating from John Tyler High School and Tyler Community College with Associates Degree. On January 4, 2003 he was united in marriage to Rhonda Sue Schenk at The Carriage House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Donny was a hardworking man who loved and took care of his family. A great husband and father, he enjoyed taking trips and participating in all of the sporting events of his sons and grandchildren. He worked as a pumper for Phillips Petroleum, was an avid reader and history buff, and enjoyed music and concerts, whether country or rock and roll, but most especially The Rolling Stones.
Donny is survived by his wife Rhonda Pitts of their home in Plainville; mother Frances Pitts of Mount Pleasant, TX; sons Joshua Holmes and wife Addie of Zurich, and Micah Holmes of Plainville; sister Maria Black and husband Jesse of Mount Pleasant, TX; brother Louis Keith of Colorado; and grandchildren Jenae Holmes, Taesen Holmes, Veidyn Holmes, and Zayvier Hays.
He was preceded in death by his father Vonnie Pitts.
The song says, “When the Lord gets ready, you gotta move.” The love of Donny’s life was his family. He taught us how to work hard for what we wanted, but also how to have fun along the way; how to laugh, love and enjoy the important things in life. We will always love and miss him until it is our turn to hear those words, “You gotta move child, you gotta move.”
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville. Friends and family are encouraged to write and share their memories with the family, so Rhonda can keep a Memory Book of Donny’s stories. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday and from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday, at the funeral home.

Deborah (Debby) K. VanWey, 62, Willard, MO, passed away on April 16, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Deb is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughters and their husbands, Becky and Justin Jenkins, Heather and Matt Renk; her five grandchildren, Pam, Kyler, Kaleb, Emily, Jordyn and her great-grandsons, Jericho and Israel. She is also survived by her brother, Jack and his wife, Nettie Bray; sister, Kathy and her husband, Gene Begnoche; and sister-in-law, Carol Madron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don; sister, Mary Lou; and brother-in-law, Merlyn Madron.
Deb was born February 26, 1954, in Scandia, KS to Richard and Dora Bray and grew up on a farm near Concordia. She found her soul mate and partner for life when she married Richard VanWey on June 3, 1978. Together they owned and operated many successful businesses, including Downs Auto Repair, Downs Car Wash, Solomon Valley Transmission, Solomon Valley Car Washes, Newton Transmission, and She and I Trucking. Together they also renovated and sold multiple houses in Colorado and Kansas. Deb and Rich lived in many places: Downs, Beloit, McPherson, Newton and Willard, MO. She enjoyed playing bingo, casinos, garage sales, photography and scrapbooking, and traveling.
Deb’s biggest success in life was as a wife, mom, and especially as a well-loved grandmother. Her grandchildren were the center of her life. She was always willing to be a playmate, listen to stories from school, and always had a special meal and the grandkids’ favorite snacks on hand when they visited. She will always be affectionately known to her family as Nanny.
Services will be held at Downs Christian Church at 10:00, Wednesday, April 20th with a luncheon for all guests, followed by burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia, KS at 3:00 p.m. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to “The Debby VanWey Memorial Fund” in care of
