Roger Dale Smart, 64, of Salina, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, after a very short battle with cancer. He was born May 7, 1949, to Marion and Rogene (DeWeese) Smart, of Leon, Kan.
Roger graduated from school in Leon. He joined the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After leaving the service, he worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita for several years. He then changed careers and began driving a truck, which lasted for 35 years. He ended his truck driving career with 16 years of service to Russell Stover Candies. Roger married Jan on March 24, 1978, and shared 35 wonderful years with her.
Loved family members left behind include his wife, Jan; son, Brett Sidles, of Assaria; daughter, Jaelyn and husband Mike Ecton, of Solomon; daughter, Una and husband Kirk Vincent, of Salina; grandchildren; Danielle Cunningham, Dalton, Kinsey and Logan Ecton, and Jessica Nelson; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Martha McAdoo, of Wichita; brother, Terry Smart, of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, at Ryan Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center.

Suzanne LaVelle Frick Vanderford peacefully walked through that celestial curtain of light to meet her God and all the others who have gone before, on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 4:14 pm at Kaye Pogue Hospice of Salina. Suzi was born to Ben and LaVelle Frick on December 19, 1957 at Asbury Hospital, Salina, Kansas.
She attended Salina schools and Kansas State University where she became a horticulturist.
Suzi married Cornelius Vanderford and they were blessed with three beautiful children, NiCole LaVelle Vanderford, Jacob C. Vanderford, and Joel E. Vanderford and have since divorced.
She loved music and was a drummer in the Salina Silver Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps. She and her family enjoyed traveling and sometimes camping out. She loved to ski, grow flowers and trees, have a garden, animals, dancing, and go to the Chief’s games.
Most of her physical adventures and activities came to a halt on August 13, 1989 due to domestic violence. She fought for independence and advocated for the disabled.
Left to grieve for Suzi are her daughter, NiCole Lavelle Vanderford; son, Jacob C. Vanderford (Lindsay); son, Joel E. Vanderford (Addy); parents, Ben and LaVelle Frick; sisters, Janie M. Frick, Mechelle R. Fuller (Mike). Also her adored grandchildren, Trystin Vanderford, Koby J. Vanderford, Kaedyn Vanderford, Emma LaVelle Corby, Stella Vanderford, Aris LaVelle Vanderford, Abel Vanderford.
She is preceded in death by her great grandmother, Jewell M. Bulloch; grandmother, Janie E. Bulloch Rodgers; grandfather, Clayton C. Rodgers; grandmother, Margaret M. Frick; grandfather, Lester Frick.
The will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Elizabeth Ruth Johnson, 93, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 17th, 2013.
Betty was born in Enterprise, Kansas on January 10, 1920, daughter of the late Ruth Mabel (Gessell) and David Logan Smith.
She worked as a Teacher and taught in many rural country schools. She also was a cook at Crestview Nursing Home, north of Salina, and was a sales clerk for G&E Western Wear.
Betty was a member of the Central Kansas Fly Wheels Museum, Salina, 4H leader, Sunday School Teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church, and was a member of the First Covenant Church, Salina.
She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman, Kansas, and received her teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
On May 25, 1940 in Enterprise, Kansas, Elizabeth married Nels C. Johnson Jr. and he precedes her in death.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara Webb and husband Stan of Bennington, Kansas; brother-in-law, Don Johnson, of Solomon, Kansas; five sons Tom Johnson and wife Judy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Gary Johnson and wife Terri, of New Cambria, Kansas, Roger Johnson and wife Donna, of Salina, Kansas, Ted Johnson and wife Jennifer, of Salina, Kansas; Gail Johnson and wife Sue, of Hope, Kansas; brothers, David W. Smith and wife Betty Jo of Glenarm, Maryland, Delbert Smith of Enterprise, Kansas; sisters, Joyce Beilefeld and husband Gerald of Junction City, Kansas, Lila Smith of Enterprise, Kansas; 18 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by son, Scott Johnson; daughters, Donna Johnson, Ann Johnson; and sister, Helen Hattenback.
Visitation will be Monday, May 20th from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 21st, at First Covenant Church, Salina, Kansas, with Rev. Mark Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas.

Celebration of Doug’s life will be at 1 P.M., Friday, May 24 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
